Not saying that it wouldn't be nicer to have it right before. I think the idea is that defeating a boss is a perfect time to create a checkpoint within a dungeon. You can't put that checkpoint before the next boss because that would be exploitable.
Maybe switching the checkpoint to whenever you clear the pack before the boss. But even then, you might get people doing a wall to wall pull, killing the pack closest to the boss, then die and port, skipping....1 pack....
I don't know. It's not really that big deal to me, but I understand why you'd bring it up. The meme response is "Well, don't die."
