You know, you're right. Yoshida's feelings matter more than the players who pay to play this game. Won't someone please think of poor Yoshi-P's feelings! It has to be fun for him above all else!Good job intentionally misinterpreting my point.
If you forced me to play Black Mage for a year I'd be depressed too. Not because BM is bad... but because I wouldn't be playing WHAT I WANT.
ANY person forced to play something they don't enjoy is going to lead to an unhappy situation even if the thing you're forced into is seen as fun by others.
He's still just a person. He can't enjoy everything himself - he's a person, not some sort of multi-headed hydra with different personalities at his beck and call, that's why he has a team. That team includes at least one full raid group, which means they have at least two healers on it. Which means they have at least two people internally who play healers already. So why force Yoshida himself to do something he won't enjoy and that he isn't the target audience for when they have at least two people who clearly ARE the target audience?
Just seems like a really stupid ask.
We've genuinely reached a point where the SE white-knights say that people asking for a developer to understand the concerns with an entire role in a game and to stop dismissing their feedback and criticisms with "just play ultimate" is now a "really stupid ask."
Because out of the players and the devs, the devs are the one who can make changes. Healers issue have been going on for 5 years now with the push for pure healing. Clearly if the complaints are still happening something is wrong in the World of Oz. I think it's well past time for a change in the Battle Team. I fully expect the Devs to get out of their comfort zones and play other roles. How else to you bring new insight and ideas? You're asking game developers not to play other games because they don't like that genre. He's still just a person. He fires(replaced) the healers who can clear extremes. Probably even normal raid levels and you think he actually has healers in his raid team?(he confirmed in an interview he replaces them for getting good)He's still just a person. Saying he got healers in his team or that healers in general is the target audiance at this point seems like a joke then truth.
Asking for one developer to exclusively play a specific role for a year is not 'asking him to understand the concerns'. And THAT is a very stupid ask.
They ALREADY HAVE members of the development team who play healers. I guarantee you. 100%. And asking Yoshida HIMSELF to play every role is just ridiculous. He himself doesn't need to and there would be VERY LITTLE BENEFIT from him forcing himself to do so.
The live balance team is the group who would specifically need someone who plays healer. If you were to start a petition to ask them to ensure they have at least one member of that team who plays a healer... that would be a reasonable ask. And they probably already do.
Asking for Yoshida himself, who isn't responsible for the game's balance personally and is just one person, to do so IS A VERY STUPID ASK.
Pretty sure the pair being used to fill up the healer slots don't even enjoy or main healers. They're likely also DPS players having to play a necessary role.
If they actually had dedicated healers on their team they would know just how bad of a state they've been in since 5.0.
Just because they have enough people on the team that are content with playing healers for testing purposes does not mean that those people necessarily have a say in the design of those jobs, nor does it mean that those people enjoy playing healers. If none of the people who actively work on job design are the people who play healers for playtesting, naturally there's going to be an issue. He's still just a person. Separating this part into another post since it's a bit more... out there. Take it with a grain of salt.
I read through the Endwalker credits to find out just how big the job design team is, and presumably they don't solely work on job design - the nearest title that this would fit under the umbrella of would be Battle System Director/Designers. Between them, that's four people.
How much breadth of gameplay preferences can that realistically cover? Naturally there would be some slack there, some jobs that aren't given as much attention because the team can only cover so many bases. I think it's self evident where the slack was.
Again, take that with a grain of salt, I don't have deep knowledge of the specifics of game development, and I might be completely off base. But I think that the developers don't care about healers because they don't enjoy them, creating a self-feeding loop where healing gets worse because the developers don't care, and the developers don't care because healing is bad.
The team needs to be made to play healers so they can be aware of just how bad the situation is.
Really, was blm had any issues in his gameplay that lasted entire expansions?Asking for one developer to exclusively play a specific role for a year is not 'asking him to understand the concerns'. And THAT is a very stupid ask.

Was it even bad to play or overly simplifies to play?
Even now, pvp blm got almost an entire patch of fixes compare to any of the other jobs with others just plain ignored...
Actions speak louder then his hollow words
