You would get to a rational price point faster in cases of extreme overcharging but would take much, MUCH longer to get out of price slumps in the current system, even for highly traded items.
I wish I was smart enough to make models, but I don't think the current stack mechanism is significant deterrent to this. Prices can still crash quickly in the current system. I feel the lack of tax / fees is a larger contributor. There is no penalty for listing and relisting.

As for the eventual downward spiral of prices, I do agree the lack of item destruction plays a role in this. Thinking back, I recall that GW2 had a similar problem. The solution was to make a material dump via the mystic forge. Basically you'd dump a lot of material in and get some bits out. I don't remember what you could get out. Again, I don't think the current stacking mechanism helps with this. The issue is a systemic one based in game design and there really isn't good way out of it. The lack of buy orders may play a larger role in preventing the downward spiral.

I think it's amazing how a bad and outdated system, like this market board, can be defended with justifications of other problems that SE should also fix.

I agree that this market board looks like a dinosaur it is so archaic. Not being able to have the option for me to "order" an item, with the value I want, or buy the amount of items I want, is stupid.

Also, this is the first old MMORPG I've played that doesn't have an auction system. WoW was amazing, because if I wanted to sell something for sure I would put an item with an auto buy at a high price but an auction value at the lowest price so if I didn't sell for the most expensive I would sell it for a mid price.

PS: bots are not the justification for anything. They are a problem, one that SE should be working to solve, not using fanboys to justify this company's inefficiency in dealing with something that is already expected in MMORPGs.

And for me, personally, I'm trying to clear out Retainer inventory from 5+ years of playing (read: pack-ratting). So I have many materials with over 300 quantity, but since they're old they don't move. Though, when they do it's for significantly more than the Vendor Sell price.
It's also tedious to put items for sale on small amounts.

In 1.23 that was optional. You had a tick box that could let people buy partial amounts. Or force them to buy it all..

But to be honest. Buying g partial amounts would likely benefit the game a lot because it'd increase gil circulation..

As it stands though. When you can't buy exactly what you need but you can go gather it in 5 or 20 minutes... you just go gather it. Its less hassle than buying too much and trying to resell the excess.. and this is why gil doesn't circulate because it rarely gets spent.

The advantage of the full-stack buying model is that it allows small-time sellers to make money by selling small stacks at only slightly more than the big stacks are selling for. I do this all the time. For example, when crafting usually uses three of a material to make an item, I'll put up 5 or 6 stacks of three of the mat at just slightly more per item than the per-item price the big stacks are set at.

One advantage is that having the per-item price of my small stack higher than the per-item price of the big stacks usually means that the big stack merchants don't lower their price in response. I'm basically retailing, and they are wholesaling.
