    Thoughts on PVP balancing - before nerfing war/rdm/drg/etc

    So, balance right now is terrible. At the higher ranks, many jobs simply disappear from play. Yet I think overall CC is a step in a good direction. It's a fun mode despite the balance issues. Of course, people will cry "nerf warrior!", "nerf red mage!", "nerf dragoon!" and so on... several topics already on these, in fact.

    ...But I don't think SE should do this. What makes the mode fun is the jobs are strong - they have lots of playmaking potential. Take away that potential and what we'll get will look more like a "The Feast 2.0". Gross, right? And previous feedback for the feast was that kills don't happen often enough - making the game too static.

    What I hope the balance team will consider doing, then, is bringing up the potential of other jobs: give everyone the potential that warrior and red mage and so on have.

    CC is less than a week old. There's very little useful data on balance this early. The meta hasn't even begun to settle. Most players don't even know what all the jobs do yet. I wouldn't freak out about nerfs just yet.

    Um. It doesn't need to be old to see that some jobs become excessively rare or just vanish in the high ranks.

    This isn't a game where you can queue as a premade or pick your classes on the fly, so it's not a case of "people are just blindly following a meta." A lot of jobs just can't do the work. It's very, very obvious balance is far off and there's a lot of balancing work to be done. Which, given that it's a complete rework, is fine. But people calling for nerfs to some of those jobs has good reasons behind it. Just I think the approach should be different.

    Just to echo this, bard is such a weak class now, it's completely unviable. I've been lucky to make it to gold tier as a bard (and one that plays on console, which means I suffer the rp walking bug; so I'm fighting uphill both ways). However, once I got into gold tier, the number of bards I see on the enemy team dropped to like maybe 1 every 10-15 matches, whereas before it was more like 1 every 2-3 matches. I can only imagine the class vanishes from sight at the higher tiers cause it's just so lacking: lowest damage, lowest health of the physical ranged classes, little to no mitigation outside the standard that everyone has, low mobility compared to any of the melee classes (seriously, melee can jump so far, there's no advantage to being ranged), absolutely hand-cramping to attempt to actually do any damage cause you have to pull off 5-6 skills to burst a target, only to watch their health-bar not move cause each shot was so weak. Not to mention the fact that you get focused straight off the field by every SAM, NIN, DRG, RDM, SMN, MCH, WAR, PLD, DRK, WHM, SCH, SGE, AST, RPR, and MNK in existence. The only two classes that don't focus blast the bard to pieces is DNC and GNB, simply cause they have their own issues.

    All bard is is a 5% damage totem that gets blasted off the field in 10 seconds or less of showing his/her face in the open.

    While some jobs inevitably need to be tweaked upwards such as GBR, BRD, BLM and SGE, some do absolutely do need to have their kits looked at and tuned down.

    I'd honestly say RPR is the benchmark of where every job should be power scale wise in terms of balance in PvP. They have a solid kit but clear weaknesses and that's what they should strive for, for every job.

    Oh look its this kind of Thread again.

    Imagine being able to consider that sometimes its not a design- but a skillissue about People not being able to progress trough Ranked Matches (Lets be real here, why else would anyone even make the effort of posting these Threads in the first place?).

    If you really want to reach a high Rank, you have to be good enough to single handedly make a difference, despite as the hardships you encounter. People have and can deal with them, but can you do so as well?
