Everyone that entered the lottery should have a second chance - it wasn't fairly done

Think about this for a second. If you entered an IRL lottery but someone added additional numbers that were not actual entrants wouldn't that be wrong and immoral? For example if ten people enter the lottery but there are an additional two "fake tickets" or even one fake ticket we would all agree that isn't fair and shifts the odds against us.

Now moving on, imagine if the lottery had errors that didn't properly choose any winner whatsoever (There were no participants in the lottery). We would find that to be suspicious and unfair would we not?

Imagine if someone were doing a giveaway and the entry was zero or strange messages were coming up like the ones we're seeing. It wouldn't be deemed fair.

My point is, the lottery was not fairly ran by any means. We do not know how the system picks a winner but what we do know it added an additional entry of "Zero" to every single house lottery. We know that the system is not operating properly. We know strange messages sometimes come up and deprive anyone of winning.

A casino wouldn't allow a slot machine to remain on the floor in this case or perhaps a dealer adding cards to a game of blackjack - or any other game.

This has to be done fairly and with full transparency. I believe that the lottery should be redone entirely for every house in every Empyreum ward AFTER it is properly fixed and ready.

2nd place gets 1st place. Houses already issued stay.

    Only resolution.

Alternative implement more houses to properly compensate for failure to deliver.

Have they not adequately communicated that the issue is not to do with the lottery itself, but with the ability, or lack thereof to communicate these results to the necessary servers holding the housing data.

Good luck opening that can of worms by making everyone re-enter the lottery. I can assure you the backlash for that will be just as bad if not worse when many people have already relocated, paid for furniture, purchased the permits, and decorated.

Is that the only resolution? We have a system giving numerous errors, failing several times, it's not isolated. We don't even know if it's fairly selecting people like a proper number randomizer. But again what we do know is that the odds are worse than they appear (zero) and that it may not even be working properly.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to question the legitimacy of this system or whether or not it's fair.

If your housing lotto did not end with a 0 winner, then just like me you lost fair and square, there will be nothing done for those unless you had a 0 or a “no participants”

    Better luck next time

The only solution is to properly compensate for the companies failure to deliver, which would be implementing more housing to do another lotto.

Punishing people who participated in good faith, and won is not the solution.

In fairness, what they are telling us and what we saw happen are two different animals. If you were in a giveaway and the number zero was selected I'm sure you would question whether or not the entire contest was fair. Your argument is sound but it's a lose-lose situation.

What's worse? Upsetting the minority of people that have acquired a house or upsetting the majority of people that believe the system is unfair?

You do not understand the situation.

Essentially, the lottery was run correctly, but there was an issue notifying some of the winners in the aftermath. A record of winners was kept, so it's still possible to notify the winners at a later date and distribute their prizes.

    Edit:

0 is a placeholder value, likely chosen specifically because it's a position that a player cannot occupy. Therefore, in the case of a communication error it prevents a player in slot 1 from winning by default.

Didnt they state in the lodestone posts that the lotto worked correctly but the results sent from the lotto server to the housing server were bugged.
So it actually worked correctly and the 0 did not affect the results.

"After investigating this issue, we discovered that, while the server responsible for conducting the lottery is functioning as intended, the results are not being properly relayed to the servers responsible for managing housing-related data."

It looks like there were not fake tickets. What happened is that if you got a 0, the information wasn't communicated to the housing server and because it had no data to show, it just showed 0.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
