You must not have done much MMO with housing.

And for the situation, well you can thank the many house sellers who forced SE to put this system in place, since every time a new slot was released, it was gone in 15 minutes, less for the big slots.

Even unironically. I could hang custom paintings on the walls in ArcheAge. Wide ones, too. Mabinogi had a largely unfleshed out housing system in the their HCh, and they deleted it entirely some point after instanced player homesteads came out. Eventually the instanced player homesteads had homes you could enter on them, making them more or less what FFXIV should have, but doesn't.

Black Desert has instanced apartments (which are much quicker to get in and out of). Warframe allows people to create literal sculpture art. These things are instanced. Instanced like your squadron rooms, which haven't been updated since Heavensward.

Everyone is asking for too much. Anyone who believes this is gullible to a cringe degree. I feel like crying on stream about the delay was the best thing he could have ever done for the game's PR. It's really unbelievable.

They need to do something and add instanced housing because adding wards will never meet the demand.

Doubling the amount of wards would be a start though. Imagine if there were 50 of them per datacenter. We currently have 7114 houses per server now. If we doubled, then we would have 14228. If we went to 100 wards per server then we would have 28456. It would go a long way to providing housing for every player. I don't even think most servers get to have that many people, so it would provide room and growth for future housing in the long run.

Adding more wards hasn't worked in the past. Those houses are immediately snapped up and then what now that we're back where we started. The desparity between supply and demand for houses is enough that I seriously doubt even tripling the current supply would put a dent in the number of players who want one. Most people who get a house honestly log in once every few weeks to do a roulette and enter their house to reset the demo timer, then log out. There's just not enough for everyone who wants to do that.

It's not totally pointless, just extremely inefficient. The people who are like "instanced housing will crash the game!!" are hilariously out of touch if they think our current route is somehow better than instances opening and closing when people are in and leave their homesteads, rather than what is essentially 400 constant open wards

IMO Wild Star is the go 2 that all game designers should look to. It was so awesome and very much missed.

What I love FFXIV as an MMO is that nothing is time-bound, nothing is limited, and nothing is reliant purely on RNG...

Except this garbage housing system. Some just say pretend it doesn't exist, but it does exist and we want to experience it too. The exclusity and scarcity just baffles me after 1 year of playing. With the release and sell out of the new plots, it leaves me feeling defeated and frankly losing motivation to keep playing knowing I cannot 'complete' or 'experience' this feature.
