I don't see nothing wrong with holding a mob, and not everybody uses bots to claim. It takes some skills to actually hold an HNM with a party of 6. Well, ffxi is easy now, but back then. There are always latecomers, like people who just came home from work that you could really use to help you defeat this mob if they can make it to the location in time before it rages. That sense of urgency brings a lot of thrill and fun to the game. Getting to the place in time to help out your struggling linkshell is pretty heroic. For haters crying over a linkshell holding a mob, you'll get your turn eventually.

If anything, atleast let people that disconnect rejoin group automatically when they come back in the game.

Wrong. Cuz that turn may or may not come for anyone up to 6 months to a year specially on Kings. The system doesn't need to be changed. Dont wanna see anymore big player zerg shells getting all the fun and kills. I had to suffer a year of that until I got sick of it and transferred once the service came about. And yes the zerg ls would have multiple hnms camped, with 1-2 groups each sometimes, and at least ten of them using a bot.

That was because of SE's retarded HNM claiming and respawn system, I wouldn't so much blame it on the community since that was a product of FFXI's design. Leaving a holding party out there for mobs like Khimaira and Tiamat was pretty much essential since they took anywhere from 3-5 days to respawn, and I wouldn't expect anyone in their right mind to expect a whole 18 man alliance to wait that amount of time. Holding parties were a necessity. Botting is a different story, but that is going to happen regardless.

And I think being able to invite people mid-fight is really needed most importantly because people do disconnect, it happens. When you're low-manning NMs one person disconnecting can mean the entire fight.

Plus with such shorter rage timers and respawn times is holding NMs really an issue?

Really, I dont mind that as much as not being able to LEAVE party while the party is engaged. There shouldn't be a reason for that
This is especially ridiculous when the party member is clear across the world. I was getting weird cons on mobs in a leve, and realized my hubby was still in the party on his MRD even though he was standing around in Limsa city. He tried to leave the pt, and couldn't until I had defeated all the red named critters.

I wonder if its somehow connected to the way cons are calculated by party and not on individual vs mob. Maybe this should be changed so that the invites/disbands during battle can be addressed.
