Where is my kaiten?
Where is my kaiten?
Watch them do the monkey paw, giving us back kaiten by putting it in the 91-100 skills/traits.
Doubt they'd do that, but it would be hilarious yet pathetic if they did. "Here's the thing that made samurai back again but you need to wait for another 2 years before it's fun!"
Reminder that theres no precedent for SE giving back abilities exactly as they were. When they gave us Hakagure back it was modified quite a lot to have a Sen reset button instead of being a long CD Shinten spamming enabler (which is funny considering shinten spam now is worse than it ever was then). So if they do realize they f'd up we'd most likely get something different, maybe more or less interesting than old Kaiten that fits their new vision of SAM better.
If they don't give us something back in 6.2 they're probably going to do that.
Another issue with that is that low level SAM would still feel really bad under level 80. Play things like level 70 synced content and you'll feel like you're playing a level 50 job, it's horrible. I hate playing a gimped version of SAM in some of my favorite fights. So I'd rather have them give something to replace that level 52 ability.
Since I continued playing the game, I just quit playing samurai. I've been learning other jobs, just so I don't have to put up with how boring samurai is now. I miss it, though, but knowing what I'd go back to? Just sucks.
Same. I'll hop on it every now and then. Most recently about three weeks ago. The latency time between each attempt to play SAM increases as time goes by. It just feels so hollow and one-dimensional. There's no challenge anymore, cause even if you pull off a full-uptime fight, always keep the GCD rolling, never overcap on anything, never overwrite Sen, the payoff is just bleh. Not only is the damage middling but the effort it takes to get there is nearly 0.
I've been leveling the other melee, when the mood strikes me. DRG is DRG; no complaints there. The job feels put-together and fun, but it's not really my cup of tea. RRP ain't bad but every time I start doing aoe I'm just reminded "oh yeah, SAM doesn't have cones anymore" and that sucks. MNK is neat with the blitzes but I feel like I'm not doing any of it right so I just do Arka dailies with it to level it up and then I'll shelve it at 90. That leaves NIN, which while it ain't bad it's not something I ever really enjoyed. I enjoyed *dabbling* in the other melee dps, but SAM was my main for a reason, and that reason has been taken away from me now. In it's place is just the most boring shit this side of tanking Sastasha. Some might think that I'm spouting hyperbole and they'd be right, because Sastasha on a tank is still more interesting just for the fact that I typically get a newbie in there and it's always a joy to run with them through their first 4-man.
SAM no longer sparks joy. I'm thinking maybe, if things don't change for the better, it's time to get off the forums and into real space. Sending letters to SE HQ voicing our displeasure kinda thing. A forum post, an e-mail, those things are a dime a dozen. But if even a handful of hand-written letters ended up mailed to SE HQ, each one voicing their displeasure with the direction SAM - and many jobs in general - have taken recently, then SE will definitely sit up and take notice.
Me too. I took a 2 month break after the awful 6.1 patch. I came back after those 2 months not salty anymore and SAM still felt just as bad as it did when Kaiten was first removed.
I'm just going to dual main RPR/DRG for now. Playing RPR is easier on my hands, and I can just play DRG for the weaving that I'll miss with SAM. I don't even have my SAM job crystal on my bar anymore, I can't play it in its current state

It's what I've said to people about samurai, and why it's boring to me. You just need strong fundamentals to play the job and there's very little optimization you can do. Because as long as you're active, you're doing damage. If a button's lit up, just hit it. Don't do the same combo twice in a row. Make sure you use an iaijutsu when you have the resources for it.Same. If samurai gets reworked into something better, I'll definitely be happy. But I just don't see why they felt the need to break it in the now, when we're playing with it. It's just such an odd decision to make. But on an unrelated note, I decided black mage was worth learning, since it's a job that very rarely gets any nerfs and is often explained immediately why there were changes and the purpose of them.
