What's the most character customization you'd be okay with?

In regards to having your leveling experience be usable uniquely / far more choices?

(Not talking about appearance, custom emotion / mannerism sets, titles, etc. This is strictly on the depth of customization that would be experienced during and as a result of leveling.)

Theoreticals are fine. Listing out the most elaborate or extreme extents you'd still be fine with would be much more awesome.

I would like to have a characteristics or trait or ability or profeciency or something that is 'useful' in day-to-day activities, but is so unique that few people would have it.

    For example:
I could choose to specialize in Thundara -- Stun Aspect -- Short Range -- Beastmen.

Few would choose a skill tree specialization like that thus allowing me to be unique.
There would be few skills that we would be able to specialize in, further limiting where we would be unique.
No specialization would be overwhelminly better than any other, so makes it a 'nice to have' but no means 'needed', thus avoiding forced-specialization.

Specialization would be nice. Having similar abilities and having to decide between one or the other version.
But that has a high potential to become a nightmare if not balanced right, aka "OMG you n00b, you chose that skill? Grats on gimping your char lololol"

ya i don't want tree specialization this is FFXIV and the key idea is you allow to play everything on one char.So type of unique is something i don't want that mean i have to play on more then one char to enjoy other type of tree like in WoW let's keep this idea for wow and wow-clones.

Then you just have to make it so utterly unique that no one knows what the other options were!

Usually I'd never define tree specialization as unique or a character development tool, but maybe that's just me. Sure as heck doesn't belong in FFXIV either, imo. Even if considered a tool to make a character more "unique", it's certainly not a very advanced or detailed one...

Tree specialization doesn't mean you can't play every class on one char though. It only restricts a class to a certain setup, but you can still play every class.

Something like D3's skill customizing could be a nice option too. Everyone has the same skills, but depending on your playing style you'd choose from a set of effects to modify/enhance your skills.

As long as you can swap customisation on the fly I would enjoy it.

Not being able to do so would severely gimp your chances in parties because as someone else mentioned there will be "preferred" builds based on content.
