It's the easiest way to diminish and brush aside criticism.
"We got this one random death threat" from a clearly unhinged person who has zero way to actually carry it out. But because of that, all the criticism of the last month won't be looked it.
Happens all the time, it's a typical PR move.
Find the one worst thing you can find to put the focus on that and ignore every other valid criticism.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Well maybe the devs should focus more on things that actually make sense then stupid fashion accessories. I don't care about umbrellas or glasses. It took them this long to fix the Hrothgar and the hair which still is dismal and the Viera are still not fixed with hats. No here is a stupid umbrella that most people even forget. Why not fix the issues that are really prevalent and give us more rewarding content. Why not spice up the annual events that have become lackluster with subpar rewards at the end. People need to stop white knighting Yoshida and the devs every time they make a blunder which in this case was a MAJOR blunder. Did they not do any sort of quality assurance before releasing this? Apparently not
Not just QA, but why did they not have people watch over as a new, major system takes place to make sure it works without a hitch? The fact that the servers weren't rolled back immediately when the system failed, and they only responded about the problem hours later after shit already hit the fan shows their absolute incompetence.
I agree. But there also isn't much reason to crucify them either. There have been blunders going back from EW release, to Raubahn EX, to AST coming in, to... well 1.0.
They screwed up. Clearly not the first, nor will it be the last. I was unaware the FFXIV playerbase themselves are so infallible. If this is not true then give them a chance to fix it, or move on. Those are your choices.
Totally agreed with you OP. It's a bit embarrassing to be lumped in with this great community when they act like this. Fortunately this is just a vocal minority and the majority of us don't act this way. I just hope the devs don't see the personal attacks and take it to heart.Hello all!
I am new to posting here and I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this but I feel its necessary to be said regardless. I've seen quite a lot of heated discussions about the player housing situation and a few other past events where players have felt slighted or in some way inconvenienced and overwhelmingly people have been voicing their frustrations in a way that seems a tad overkill. Frustration is one thing but calling devs names or being hysterical about this or any situation does nothing but cause real people to be stressed out. I know we often laud the dev team and Yoshi-P especially but the opposite can be true too. Very bi-polar which is to be expected from such a large MMO audience.
I hope people who read this can voice their frustrations more gently and constructively in the future. I'm sorry you were inconvenienced but this is a game that you enjoy and its a career that game devs slave at to make. the disparity between our commitments is immeasurable. They want to make the best game they can and believing otherwise is foolish. I don't mean this to be another "praise Yoshi-P!" post so please understand that I just think our collective voices when compounded have a very drastic effect on real people and we should act accordingly.
TL;DR stop being mean pls
Devs,
Please resolve the situation and consider a more permanent solution to FFXIV housing, but I also know how stressful having something break in a game like this is, so take care of your mental health while you work through this and ignore the people that are just lobbing petty attacks.
Well some definitely do struggle with the idea that their viewpoint is not the only viewpoint to be had, and anything contradicting said viewpoint is either toxic positivity, or white knighting.
Very true. Also at risk of sounding a little callous, I don't think some random naming their listing on PF "death to the devs that have ruined this game" or something really counts as a "death threat". Maybe that's just me but I only really consider things death threats if like... the names of family members or addresses of the people you're threatening are involved or something. It's still gross to do, of course, but calling things like that "death threats" is a bit of a stretch, and you probably shouldn't invoke the extreme negative connotations of those words to try and make things that aren't super serious seem like bigger deals than they are, then the words just lose all meaning. It's the easiest way to diminish and brush aside criticism.

It's a bug. It's an accident, it wasn't done on purpose. That's the very definition of accident.I'm sorry you were inconvenienced by the people who are rightfully complaining about the giant cat race that lost their ears or the people who have put up with 10 years of bad housing systems only to lose their lottery to a 0.
Hold them accountable through reasonable means or this game will go the way of WoW.
Kaiten was removed on purpose and their argument were innaceptable.
Horthgar haircut were done on purpose despite the community saying they didn't care about clipping.
As for the Housing...
I agree it's worrying after SQEX asked for 2 weeks of extra time for patches, because of QA testing and this, with the BRD buff pass through.
This 6.1 has many things going on, pvp rework, ARR rework, adventurer card... Housing and the lottery included.
Yes, this kind of problem is not acceptable. But it's the first time we've met such a problem.
The most reasonable reaction would simply be "Okay, we understand and we will be patient. Please make sure these situations don't repeat themselves."
Anything more will be unnecessary, will benefit no one and will work against everyone.
This thread is going to look so weird when that clown gets banned and all his posts are removed...
