So I Didn't Win a House. Now What?

Like title says, now what?

Though I haven't scoured each area and ward from top to bottom, several hours of searching around before I placed a bid revealed that, at least in Empyreum, there were fewer than five small plots without bids. And I stopped checking on Wednesday, when I placed my bid. I doubt there were any small plots sitting without bids before the draw.

I started only last summer, so I haven't seen cycles on how these things work. Will there be more Empyreum wards added at a later date? I suppose I have a small chance that a winner or winners won't claim their plots, and they'll go back up for sale... but I'm not naive. Those chances are between slim and none.

I guess in the end what I am getting at is that I don't see the point of a constant "lottery cycle" if all the stock sold out in the first round.

Sometimes people swap servers and have to drop their house so those would get added to the pool available to bid on, but that's about it until the auto-demolition system is re-enabled. Once auto-demolition is back on, any house that hasn't been entered for 45 days by the owner (personal) or fc member (fc housing) will be reclaimed by the server and placed in the next bidding pool. This also means that some of the biggest available housing pools beyond initial ward releases are 45 days out from auto-demolition being turned back on.

Same as with placard clicking before, just less time investment. It depends on your server pop, but on mine an empty plot pops up once a month or so, generally a small. So I guess you just get to fight 100 bidders instead of 10-15 from now on lol. Tbf for most of my playtime, autodemolition has been intermittently turned off, so it might be better if/when they turn it on again? But even at best, I see 2-3 plots open a month max, and almost all of them are smalls.

Ideally, they might add more wards like they did previously (I think it was like half a year ago?) to supplement the existing housing districts, but they might also just not add anything at all until whenever the next housing district comes out, which will obviously be at least a couple of years from now. It sucks, but people were already struggling to buy a small plot while only competing against other people who were willing to placard click. Now that it's far easier to bid on a plot, it seems very unlikely that the majority of players will be able to win one once the new wards (and openings from people relocating for that) are all filled up.

you can transfer to Materia (it's free) and land on Bismarck or Zurvan - least populated worlds. There's literally hundreds of houses without an entry there, even large plots are, to this day, empty without a bid. And don't get me started on completely empty FC wards. I created new char on one and moved main to the other. They have a mansion each now, so I can divulge XDD There was no need for lottery on Materia to begin with, but SE being SE, it is what it is.

I won't hold my breath for more wards, sadly. They just added 24 new wards for Empy per world. They also just added the Oceanic data center, which had multiple worlds with tons of wards for each housing district. They're also going to be giving us new worlds (8 worlds total I believe on NA alone over the next couple years), and each of those new worlds will have a boatload more wards/housing available. They're already adding a ton more housing, so I can't feasibly see them adding more wards on top of what they're already doing. Though if they do GREAT! I'll be ecstatic! I just won't... hold my breath for it and expect it and then get my hopes up.

Wait for SE to decide to open up the FC only wards so that the small houses there can be bought by personal buyers vs sitting unbid on for months.

In the mean time, check out the other housing districts for openings and probably wait for them figure out the lottery bug and bid on one of those.

Now you get to enjoy lotteries for single plots going up on occasion with multiple hundreds of entrants for each one.

This first initial rollout where the best chance most people had at reasonable odds for getting a plot, which just goes to show how bad the supply issue is.

Going to be interesting to see the number of entrants on solo plots as they become available. After all is said and done I think they're going with lotto for those for sure and whether or not we'll see FCFS with additional wards remains to be seen.
