So what happens if it comes out that the rumors are true and anyone who put in their bid prior to the emergency maintenance on the 13th had their bid wiped out of the system? Would they just wipe it clean and do it all again? I can't see them taking people's houses away from them, but what do they do for the people who got screwed out of a chance before the lot was ever drawn? I'm included in that group, so I want answers.

Honestly, they would probably keep that some what quiet as it would be a mess to fix the issue. It's a lose-lose situation where it is about impossible to address the problem, and make every one happy at the same time.

It's not true. My FC and I all bid immediately the morning it was open, and we won our plot.
It had 18 bids total by the end.

The housing system in this game seems to be unfair in all respects. Housing for personal use should be reserved for sanctuaries with the ability to upgrade and leave the wards to FCs. That way anyone who wants a home, gets a home and there is not of this waiting bs when the system screws up and then everyone is out of luck. Just my own thoughts. agree to disagree if you like, but I honestly feel it would have been a better method of handling this.

I actually think they should flip it the other way. As I've detailed in other threads (often enough I'm sure some of you have heard this before), I think FCs should not be able to have ward housing; I think FCs should have instanced housing.

Specifically, I think FCs should have instanced airships.

The airship would have a big top deck (where you could use exterior housing decorations), a greenhouse (where you could grow and crossbreed plants -- and, heck, potentially have more than three garden plots to use), personal rooms, and a company workshop. This way, any FC over a certain rank would have immediate, guaranteed access to systems gated on housing (like gardening and the company workshop). And since it's an instanced airship, you could literally have 'vistas' visible through the windows or off the top deck. Tired of your ship being parked off the coast of La Noscea with Limsa visible? Have an FC officer go pilot it off the coast of Kugane. Or off the coast of Eureka, or over the ruins of Mhach, or over Mor Dhona with the Crystal Tower visible in the distance, or whatever else; because you aren't making wards -- just "what do you see visible when you look off the edge of the airship" -- you can make so many different types of interesting vistas, and the airship can be piloted around whenever folks want a change of scenery.

That wouldn't remotely "solve" housing demand, but it would ensure that no FC had to struggle for a house to be able to participate in things like having a company workshop, and it would also remove FCs from the contention for housing plots (thus at least freeing up a non-zero amount of plots for personal housing, and also putting an end to the create-a-dummy-FC shenanigans people use to obtain houses).

Though it still does leave the existing issue with instanced housing, that you potentially overload the housing servers and require constant expansion of them as more and more instanced airships get allocated. And this game's architecture does not seem well-suited to dynamic allocation of new assets... even if we weren't in a global pandemic that's had an adverse affect on the availability of a number of parts vital to many electronics (thus making it hard to get the additional servers if you need to expand).

(But having FC houses be the instanced ones would at least make for a slower rate of instance allocation than having the personal houses be instanced would.)

Probably not even that, since some likely have taken their house deposit out of the sign and have no way to put it back in when SE decides to reroll the 0 ones.

My FC had the only bid on a plot and still lost. I'm afraid my FC will never get a house at this rate. It is extremely disappointing.

I am one of those hording screenshots of being the only bidder on my plot, and having entrant '0' as the winner - the bug report section does not seem to be setup to report this (and yes, they are aware, in a general way, of the problem).

I have not taken the refund, and am looking for suggestions on my correct course of action in case they are actually able to sort this out in the current cycle (hope springs eternal, but the blackest pit of my soul tells me that I may be consigned to homeless status ).
