apartments work like that, however give one the ability to increase size of apartment... with of course a massive gil sink cost to it...

One of the weirdest things to me about the XIV community is their ability to keep suggesting things that turn out horrifically terrible. I would think by now that some of you would realize that with every wish you managed to get granted, the monkeys paw will curl. You're going to get what you asked for!! And you're going to hate it even worse than what you had before. You wanted a raffle. We have a raffle. It cost us the majority of personal houses, but you got your raffle you all begged and pleaded so much for. Now what. Instanced? You'll get your instanced house and probably have some weird unfortunate limit on how many people can visit which will effectively ruin things like RP venues-I'm just calling it now. Because there's no way that will be implemented and NOT be a disaster somehow. SOMEthing will go terribly wrong and here we'll be yet again saying how it should instead be something else.
They honestly do need to switch to instanced housing. Neighborhoods can exist for people who want that, but I honestly don't care about having neighbors I'm not the type of person to run around and hang out outside of my house in any game, I spend my housing time decorating and inviting friends to hang out in my house. I don't know anyone who spends a ton of time hanging out outside of their house in this game, either though I'm sure they exist they are almost certainly an extreme minority of the population.
I'm hoping island sanctuaries will develop into a solution for this issue, as this game easily has the absolute worst housing system I have ever seen in an MMORPG. Everybody should be able to participate in this sort of hobby content, and this game is not set up to be able to support everyone having access to neighborhood housing. Another alternative could be expandable apartments where you can increase how many rooms you have, their sizes, and provide instanced outdoor areas but even those are part of the housing neighborhoods.
I enjoy the physical outdoor/communal nature of neighborhoods too...
But wouldn't a solution to this be some kind of outdoor free company housing? Where you and your FC get to move outdoor furniture around on a mountain, farm, island or whatever? That way you keep the neighborhood but lower the need
I am assuming you're one of the lucky ones that actually has a house to say this. I have been trying since the game came out of beta to get a house and nothing do you understand how crappy that is? It's unfair to a larger portion of the player base that only a select few get to have a nice house and garden they get to decorate yet here ya go guys 1 tiny room enjoy..... Instanced housing is the fix and it should have been the fix a long time ago there is absolutely no reason they should keep alienating a large portion of the player base. I lottery system is just terrible and I see people bidding on houses when they already have one with second accounts like what?? I understand people want to be in the new area but let the ones who have never had the chance get some land...
Also I legit never see anyone in the housing areas so this physical neighborhoods already feel like single player because people aren't just hanging out in their house all day. The instanced housing would allow for wards to be visited and you could leave your house open to visitors just like you do now.

In addition to what some other people have said, I think the instanced housing should be more of a focus to get housing more in line with the developers idea that you should be able to put the game down for a while to do other things between patches and come back when you're not burnt out.
At the moment, if you have a house, you really can't fully do that. You have to maintain sub and at least log in to keep the house there - and that's just to keep your house there while lots people who are actively playing can't have one.
It's a problem. People should be able to walk away for a year even, not have the game installed, and come back to their house. People who are actively playing should also have the ability to get their hands on a house in order to fully experience the housing system. (which you cannot do in an apartment, due to size and lack of outdoor area)
Some greater form of instanced housing is the only solution.
It could be cool too, it doesn't need to be that you have the only player populated plot in an empty ward, they could have it be like an isolated spot in nature. A forest cottage for example. Lots of different ways it could be approached. And if you really don't want that, you want the neighborhood experience feel or whatever, cool - have fun competing for spots and holding on to your house. It can be optional.
What I would like is instanced housing connected to one ward like the firmament. I would like it to be a little smaller. But have different NPCs with houses. Move old vendors like poetics, scrips, beast tribes. Try to have custom deliveries tied to those areas. Have new crafting fates added in those areas. Maybe add a crafting buff while crafting in that area. So when we zone out of our house we are in a lively area.
I know you're a troll, but I just love pointing out where trolls are wrong - houses already have a limit of how many people can visit. It doesn't ruin RP venues, it's actually a good thing.
Now, what's your next attempt at an inflammatory comment? Surprise me.
