That... seems a little extream. I understand being unhappy with how housing works, I am unhappy too, but whilst it is an aspect of the game that should NOT be gatekept the way it is, there is still alot to enjoy in the game outside of that!
This might be true, however the only way to get these gaming companies to change is to speak with your wallet, and even then sometimes the really stubborn ones still refuse to listen. But if player housing, a feature of the game that many are locked out of, is enough of an issue for players, I see no reason why speaking with their wallet to let SE know how they feel is extreme. This isn't 20 years ago where the number of good games is a very limited field. There are so many good games out there with outstanding game play, as a player when you choose to invest in a game like FF14, you're basically saying "no" to all those other games. For that kind of a statement, FF14 better be delivering a world class experience. In some ways they do, in regards to housing they do not and it's enough for some players to spend their valuable time in some of those other games.
My FC was lucky to get a house and I have a room there, now. That and my apartment will have to do because I'll never be able to get a house of my own. The housing system in this game is easily the worst I've ever personally had to contend with.

personally, I don't actually see them doing anything as bold as a rollback. I actually have a feeling they won't do anything more than fix the bug, apologize, and restart the lottery
What I can imagine though is they may increase the amount of wards. On servers not run by S-E they just set it to max and walked away which is 30 and we're at 24
so they could add like 3 wards which would actually be 15 since every district would get them and they could maybe notice how barren the FC wards are and drop FC exclusive down to like 8 or 10 and make the middle wards mixed which would open up an absolute boatload of ishgard small houses for new buyers. IMO a new buyer should not turn their nose up at small houses.
There is literally no way they can make this not bad but they can definitely do something to make it not all bad, just a matter of will they?

I've lost motivation to play today, but I'm capped on tomes and have most of my weekly stuff done so probably going to take a couple of days off and hope things resolve in a positive way.
You know the dev team is calling your bluffs on this right. Nobody is unsubbing because they didn't get a plot. And even if they did, Yoshida encourages you take breaks from the game if you're burnt out with nothing to do. What were you people doing for years when countless wards were added to them game that you could just go up to and buy? What did you expect to come of this thread anyway, having a community manager show up going "No wait please don't go, we'll add 50 more wards!"
People have been waiting for new housing for like 4 years. And when the devs finally got off their ass and decided to grace us with more wards, the system shat itself because the devs don't know how to make a random number generator. Something that was already done with /dice might I add. Even the monkeys at Bethesda have better QA. If you have a 100% to hit something in fallout, you are gonna hit it. Here if you have 100% chance to get a house, you lose to an imaginary man with their 0 ticket. Plates are in beta, aka they are expected to have some glitches, but even something in literal beta is faring better than the housing system. How did it go so wrong? Incompetence is the only answer.
I can't speak for all players, but my patience has ran out. At least with the old stay up all night clicking on sign method, if you win it, you win it. This system only has losers. Yoshi-p quickly announced compensation for log in queues during ew release, I think I speak on behalf of many players we fully expect something similar here. This was people's best chance to get a new house. If we have to wait half a decade for crysatarium housing to get another chance, players are going to be very unhappy, me included.
