What is going on with Square Enix and the 14 team?

My problem with this is... why should the playerbase be the ones to suggest to them that they should actually warn people about these limitations if these limitations are something they're adamant towards sticking with? Shouldn't they have had these warnings in the game from the time Shadowbringers launched? I mean, you have to pay for Shadowbringers to get access to these races, so if you want to play as one, you're already out the $40 plus the subscription fee or whatever, and these limitations are nowhere on any of the promotional material they put out for this game that openly advertises the races as one of the reasons to buy the new expac. They were even advertising male Viera with EW promotions and not a single word about the limitations on male Viera was present.

I don't want to say they're intentionally being malicious, but it is a bit hard for me to feel sympathetic towards the devs with the reasoning of "they let you know back in Stormblood that these were going to come with limitations!" when they've otherwise made absolutely 0 effort on making that apparent in anything outside of live letters, especially towards new players who started at or after Shadowbringers launched. I don't think it should be up to the playerbase to make the developers do the right thing. If they're so adamant on keeping these limitations to the point it irritates and frustrates them when players complain, then they should do their own due diligence to let it be known that these are not, and will never be fully functioning races. Until they do that without the community demanding that they do the right thing, it's hard for me to feel sympathetic for them.

funnily enough a similar thing happened with tiny tina's wonderland people who bought the season pass were absolutely fuming that they spent 5-10$ on a DLC (depending on how it was bought) that was barely 10 minutes of content but people who defended them were saying that they knew what they were paying for cause it was described in the description for the DLC. as if that somehow makes up for the fact that it's 10$ for 10 minutes of content (which mind you the only thing hat was explicitly described was how the DLC was structured not how long or how in depth it would be it literally just said you get 5 rooms before a boss and that was basically it not how big the rooms were if they'd have side quests anything. worst of all they timegated the bosses forms one form each week and it was cut content)

It doesn't matter how long you play this game nor how long you play any class in this game it won't equate to you being a better player because the game does not challenge you.
Players have to seek out challenge themselves and actively focus on improving to get better at the game.

Plenty of people have every job/class capped at 90 and have been playing since 1.0 and can barely clear extreme content.

Several years of asking got them years pf brush off comments and earless hairstyles. Demanding got them an apology in, what, a month? Can't blame Hroths for the tone shift, lighting a fire under SE is regularly the only way to get them to shift gears with this game.

And that one apology didn't come across as an apology at all. This is how it sounded. "Oh. Well, I didn't know what you guys wanted, but we can maybe add some new hairstyles with the ears at some point if you guys want." All while looking annoyed. Yeah, well, try being us for 3 years my good sir. After that passive aggressiveness I'm done playing nice.

Yea, I think a lot of people were hoping it would be some more great content for the game. They teased it like 4-5months before endwalker came out. And then yoshi was like "just kidding don't get too hyped"? While i believe expecting nothing and being surprised is always the right mindset to go into things, hearing a dev say that leaves weird feelings in my stomach.

Think that was why it was delayed as well. They were expanding and working on it to make it better, after seeing the player hype.

Yes, because these players have been waiting for over THREE YEARS. And the best this billion dollar company could do was give them 6 half-assed hairstyles that cut off one of their most prominent features? And then laugh about it? I’m sorry, but at this point they’ve lost the respect from many people. It’s beyond irresponsible as a game developer to do that.

Reasonable feedback and acknowledges what has been stated in the past while still asking for the possibility to be left open. But people aren't doing that. As Sturm pointed out, they're demanding, not asking.

I do believe the folks are getting sick and fing tired of waiting. That's the issue.
When SE says they'll work on it, it'll be a 2 year release aka the next expansion if not LONGER.

They do not dramatically change anything within the expansion, like ever.
It stays terrible and not worked on until forever and it's always half-baked.

We're sick of it and people have been 'playing nice' for far too long now and this is the results.
I'm almost feel like we get trolled sometimes or this is a miscommunication between us and him somewhere.
Some changes are just really fail all around and 'no one asked for this' type of deal.

Because it gives them something concrete to focus on implementing. Saying something like "There should be a message on character creation that says X" helps them more than just "Warn people in character creation". I mean, I still don't entirely understand what all messages you want to have there myself. Do you want to warn people about hairstyles? About hats? The suggestion about availability of races being dependent on expansion is a good one.

A warning message about headgear and hair on these races being limited would be good. I know this issue was fixed recently with 6.1, but prior to that, there also should have been a warning to hrothgar specifically before they created them "You will have to buy a fantasia from the mogstation to change your hair"

Granted, that would have turned people off to it very quickly, but yea a warning about how limited these races are should be present saying something like "Certain headgear will not display" and "Not all hairstyles are available to these races"
