What is going on with Square Enix and the 14 team?

I hope a lot of this is a wake up call for SE. The playerbase does look to have their limits.

I mean, do they though? We keep hearing about issues and problems that have been around for literal years. The game going down the toilet for years. The developers ignoring the players for years. And yet, those same players with those same complaints are still playing (and paying).

I'm not saying there isn't some sort of breaking point or, more likely, a slow leakage of players, but it's a little laughable to imply that all of a sudden there's going to be some sort of mass exodus due to the recent (and very real) issues. There's just too many players who are too addicted and obsessed with the game to quit regardless of what they believe the developers are doing with the game.

You are 100% correct on that. It's strange in a way. Let's say you have Hrothgar hairstyles without ears, for example? Well someone will defend it. But on no logical base. It's incredibly strange to me.

It's as if they take this as an attack on themselves or their ego. Many have supported this game for years and in no way would they want for FFXIV to be another WoW.

In other words, all they're doing is ruining this game without even realizing it.

I know people who complain sound whiny. And often people complain over trivial stuff.

But it's the people who complain that want to see the game thrive. And not every complaint is hare-brained.

Those who are satisfied with the game as-is likely will get bored of it and move on.

That's what people said about WoW. However, a series of bad decisions can cause subscription bleeding on an unprecedented scale eventually. One final straw is all it takes to break the camel's back and then they're gone forever.

The game really is following the same trajectory as WoW. Right down to removing 'offensive' dirty jokes and priortising the development of things like the 2B hairstyle for male characters when for years many people playing male characters have politely begged for more masculine options.

Between the healer problems for 6 years being ignored, the recent Hrothgar problems where they waited patiently for 3 years and got literal shit, to the horrid job design in 6.1, the pretty controversial story of EW, to now the housing system just imploding on itself. Do the devs just not care anymore? The game is seeing it’s peak, the game is bringing in more money than ever, and yet we’re somehow getting more broken systems. I guess this is what happens when they let the popularity get to their head? They start thinking they can half ass everything and people will continue to stay and kiss up to them. Seeing this community’s history i don’t blame them for thinking that way but…my god. The game is taking such a downward spiral. At this point i’m expecting Ultimate to have some major errors and that would be the icing on the cake.

Play something else.

Video games arent meant to cause people grief and make you feel cheated or robbed of your time and effort. This is pathetic, considering how much they make on this game. I dont know whos fault it is, but it is someone at Square Enix's fault. They have everyones money, so they dont care unless people unsub. The servers will get downsized, youll experience the same issues next expac. Itll be a buggy, grief ridden mess from now into perpetuity because they genuinely do not care what we think. They didnt even ask us about the housing changes before they made them so they went ahead and made the insane decision to make 18 wards FC only. Theyll just use the money they make off us to make another Marvel game or something and pay them to play it for like 3 hours straight at E3 even though no one cares about it.

He's always polite about how he says it, but I appreciate that he doesn't want me to only play this game and generally respects players time. The mentality you're saying they should have is how you get all sorts of time sinks and time wasters in a game. It leads to a lot of predatory practices nobody wants in this game.

Someone that respects your time would challenge you. If you play a job for 100 hours and you've learnt nothing, there was no real improvement made there.

You ultimately might have fun but respecting your time isn't being so indifferent to your strengths that you have to pull everyone down to the same level. This has nothing to do with respect whatsoever.
