No he eluded to that, by using the leaps in logic here -- Really,. He just said if you feel a content drought, then it's ok to play other games because it will just stop the demonstrable stress -- and that it was the best answer he could think of in order to maintain motivation. The amount of people that see this as some sort of malice response is shocking.

"Hey YoshiP, I love FFXIV, but it's hard to keep playing your game (because of the lack of content) and now I'm taking a break here. Sorry for asking this but is there a way or a reason to keep playing? or anything that can you teach me how to keep my motivation for playing your game?" - A player asking Yoshida during Gamescom
Yoshida's answer
Yoshida "It's alright not to play it everyday. Since it's just a game, you can stop forcing yourself if it's hard on you to keep that up. Rather, it'll just pile up unnecessary stress if you limit yourself into playing just that one game since there are so many other games out there. So, do come back and play it to your heart's content when the major patch kicks in, then stop it to play other games before you got burnt out, and then come back for another major patch. This will actually make me happier, and in the end, I think this is the best solution I can answer for keeping your motivation up for the game."

I've said as such countless times? I'm for sure going to call bs on that. Make your point as you've every right to but please don't lie to try n further it. Something I HAVE said countess times? "Give your feedback, just go about it in a polite way". I'll stand by my notion for folks to unsub until the game gives you want you want from it as many others have stated. But from what I've seen folks cut of that extra bit and just say folks are just saying "just unsub". Some are, some aren't saying as such
What you call deflecting has for sure (at times) been people just offering a viewpoint you don't agree with. You're one of the notorious people around here that like to generalize and frankly it's not cool.
I'd be willing to bet that there are just as many "white knights" as there are people who paint xiv to be one of the worse games out rn or a game that's on death row (despite offering no evidence to back said claim). 2 sides, same coin. Yet you won't call out the later because you agree with those people
I wouldn't say is a malicious response, but I wouldn't really say it is a good response either. But it is overly used on the forums.
One group that really doesn't get any recognition in that process was the FFXI dev team. I heard they played a very large part in redesigning the game.
[QUOTE=Theodric;5939583]Honestly? I like Yoshi-P but salvaging 1.0 into something playable wasn't that impressive a feat and neither was it something accomplished by a single person. Many of the same people who praise him for it have nothing but contempt for the ARR era these days which is to me an admission that actually things weren't all that great after all.
I played the alpha for 1.0 and gave my feed back of "I would not recommend releasing this game in its current state, it needs a lot of work before it should be released". I ended up getting ARR cause WoW sucked at the time and a friend talked me into it. I remember hating the MSQ and not caring about it for the most part. I quit pretty quickly once I hit 50, and came back after second leviathan was released and starting progging through all the stuff to get to Coil. Personally I enjoyed it, I leveled everything to 50, raided with almost every class, had met really cool people that I still play games with today. Sadly most of them no longer play FFXIV for many reasons that I tend to complain about, I ended up becoming FC leader of my now dead FC where I met everyone that I used to play. It sucks.
I agree, the biggest problem to is when you mention you think FFXIV needs more content, people immediately assume it's just raid content or certain content. I think most aspects of this game needs more content or even new content. When they show that whole HW vs EW content stuff, I think it is actually sad that there has only been 1 new type of content released in all these expansions and I am honestly not even sure what it is.

It isn't a good response, I wouldn't say. It could have opened up the chance for Yoshida to create a poll of what content they would like to see in the game, and then follow-up with said response in that people shouldn't feel as though they need to force themselves to play the game, because it is ultimately an unhealthy mentality. Regardless of whether a sub is or is not present in the business model.
That being said, it doesn't change the fact that people are using wild leaps in logic to try and construe these words in a way that wasn't even intended -- and are in fact try to elude to some form of malice.
When he says "go play other games", whether people go play other games and stay subbed, or go play other games and unsub does not matter at all, the meaning isn't relevant.
SE will have monthly stats of subs and unsubs and will know exactly the impact of what they say. And in this case, they will no doubt have the evidence that saying "go play other games during droughts" has little to no impact to their profit and budget.
Equally, they will have stats on which areas of the game their users participate in and a percentage breakdown. This will inform them which areas to be careful with (not to mess up on development so as to not affect their profits). Also these stats will inform them as to what to prioritise development on, and will highlight financial risk of saying/doing something that will hit their profit. So, they know for example, if hardcore raiders unsub from the game for 6 months, it doesn't matter. But, if people who do glamour, (e)rp, housing and crafting quit, the financial risk is much higher and they would have to change the formula - therefore with all these activities available in game, and with glamouring, (e)rp, housing and crafting likely being the most popular areas, the risk of mass numbers of people unsubscribing and causing a dent is pretty low, I would say.![]()
There's definitely a lot of players who will consistently subscribe to the game and pass the time by standing around in Limsa Lominsa, visiting 'venues' and taking screenshots. When I read an interview today about how Yoshi-P liked to pretend to be a girl online so much about this game's design decisions began to make more sense:
![]()
Either your reading comprehension is dwindling or you are electing selectively extract information. Or you do not understand what roleplay is.
In no uncertain terms does it state:
He couldn't be any more clearer that he's roleplaying as his character as opposed to openly misleading people regarding his gender identity. It comes down to whether these were mutual understanding of it being Roleplay as opposed to genuine and deliberate misleading. It equally comes down to understanding the difference between IC and OOC.However, I want to emphasize that there's a difference between someone who's obviously pretending to be a girl and someone who's playing as their female character would! The former is unethical in a way, while the latter is a respectable form of roleplay
Like how did you manage to interpret this in the complete opposite way than intended despite it being made clear in the second paragraph. You are using some bizarre leaps in logic to try and justify certain decisions in the game when arguably there's not much connection between the two - Didn't you already try pulling this stunt with a member of the QA on Twitter based on their political viewpoint...?
