Auto attack wont fix anything, It will just appease the old school people who know nothing other than auto attack, and cannot accept change. It is kind like a 'mental disorder'. I would have to look up which mental disorder it is...

You know what else would help with not having to "play DDR," as someone put it? Being able to put an ability on the bar more than once. If one or two of your #4 slots was your basic attack again, there'd be no need to dash all the way back to bar one, slot one. Heck, even if it took the same amount of SP to put it on again (0, in the case of basic attacks) I know there are some abilities I'd like to have redundant copies of from time to time, just so I don't have to play around with the action bars.
Question for those Against Auto Attack:
MMO needs communication & cooperation with other humans that needs language either writen or spoken. Currently we cant type effectively because we have to be constantly pressing buttons to attack. Also the UI is pretty much $hit for chatting. How will people communicate in battle? Just dont communicate? SE adds Voice Chat system? Create a Gambit System like FFXII? Slow the combat down like it was in Alpha?
You're not doing anything wrong. Have you considered the problem might actually be the UI and not the combat itself? Acessing 30 skills by scrolling up and down some bars is a terrible solution for gamepad users, and leads to all the problems you're describing.Tell me again how I'm supposed to select skills again? 1:1 on a keyboard 2+:1 on a gamepad.
Oh i've set up my action bar wrong, so anything thats not in the first/last 3 slots in bars 1 2 and 3 become null and void?
Create macros for the things that are just too far away to reach with a gamepad?
SO how am i playing wrong when clearly you're doing it right?
Look DDR plays like this:
up down left right left right down down up right left down
FFXIV plays like this (keyboard):
1 1 2 3 up 3 2 1 down 2 3 down 1 2 3 up 1 2 3 (changing rows all skills in first 3 slots)
or like this (gamepad):
1 1 right 2 right 3 up 3 left 2 left 1 down right 2 right 3 down left left 1 right 2 right 3 up left left 1 right 2 right 3 (changing rows all skills in first 3 slots)
Am i not supposed to press buttons for attacks? What happens when I run low on TP after i use 2 or 3 skills? press the button for my TP building attacks? No? What am I doing wrong?
There's a nice thread about this in the UI section, we'd love to hear from you.
edit: scratch that, you're the one who started it -_-°
Most of this coordination happens before the fight. In a fight, there's very little need for long words. Anything that happens is communicated by visual cues, or by a good UI. The number of valid choices you as a player can make is very limited in any given situation. If I play a healer, I don't need someone to tell me to heal the tank, I see his HP bar for that, and I see when the mob does his "I'm gonna hurt you bad" animation so I know to frontload a big heal.Question for those Against Auto Attack:

If someone wants to start a BR, i need my UI to tell me, not someone spamming BRBRBRBRBR in chat.
If the situation is so unexpected or desperate that you really REALLY must talk to your group, than having your auto-attack deliver 2 puny blows whily you type certainly won't make much of a difference.
Also, having a more responsive chat window wouldn't hurt in that situation either.

Perhaps you should ask that to those MMO that successfully utilise non-auto attack action based playstyle. Likewise, question for those All for Auto Attack: If say MMO like TERA or DCUO or Earthrise or whatever coming soon/already there don't have Auto-Attack and they work, why are you so against it? Many of the new MMO are moving away from Tab-Targeting and in effect, no Auto-Attack.Question for those Against Auto Attack:

Enough with this communication thing, what about Wow and Aion? There's Auto-Attack, but it's useless, you still have to spam skills, the rate at wich someone presses a button is even faster then in FF14, but I've never heared anyone complaining that you can communicate.Question for those Against Auto Attack:

You wanna say something during a battle? just stop for a few seconds, no1 will kill you for that...
Or talk to the mic.You wanna say something during a battle? just stop for a few seconds, no1 will kill you for that...
As has been said multiple times before, nobody is buying the "communication" bullcrap in this day and age. Other MMO's are fine, XIV should be fine as well. People aren't going to accept less involving gameplay to be able to chat in this 3D MSN because they don't accept it in any other MMO either.
If they extended the battle queue and allowed us to input a few commands to be executed in sequence chatting in battle would no longer be an issue.Question for those Against Auto Attack:

In those games the mechanics for battle are different.Enough with this communication thing, what about Wow and Aion? Skills in those games use ONE type of governing system to execute skills. you have Mana/Stamina/Action
Most of your skills are available from the beginning of the fight, you can use your generic light attack and use up just a small portion of one of your governing pools or start with the generic large attack using a large portion of your governing pool.
Those governing pools start at 100% at the start of a fight and RECHARGE ON THIER OWN. The rate of regen is based on stats and gear.
But in FFXIV you use 3 governing systems for skills. MP/Stamina/TP
Your basic attacks use Stamina
your abilities use MP/Stamina
your skills can use all 3!
the only way to recharge your TP to use those skills is to press a button to attack.
Yes lancer gets and ability that regens TP but that skill isn't interchangeable.
The only way to regen MP during battle is to be main mage and use your MP recover skills, or use your TP skills to return MP from dmg dealt. But then you need to have TP available in the first place to use it!
Having Auto Attack = regening governance pools from other MMOs
so lets break it down.
Wow Type games:
Skills use one of the following to execute skills: Mana Stamina Action
most skills are available from the beginning of a fight.
Mana Stamina Action regens w/o player input
you start with 100% in each pool.
FFXIV
skills can use up to 3 governance pools to execute skills: MP Stamina TP
Only Stamina regens on it's own
you start a fight with 0 TP
You have to attack to gain TP
you need TP to execute other skills.
It's like I said get rid of TP in FFXIV and allow us to use any skill as long as we have sufficient stamina and you have a system where auto attack doesn't matter.
But i think people will be even more upset about that than having an AA implemented for TP gain reasons.
So another option which you all know i support is to automate your TP gaining attacks to take some of the load off the players. The battle system will have to be rebalanced in accordance.
Whats not an option is staying with what we have now, as the dev polls show. the "spamming" of skills is the 2nd biggest issue.
No one is buying your bull crap that in this day and age VC is a must... how about that?Or talk to the mic.

You will not get people to join a vent channel for Grind/Behest/Guildleve grps outside of Linkshell groups.
DO you propose that SE create a VC client thats hosted on their servers creating even more overhead and lag for everyone?
What about people that speak a different language? I myself unfortunately only speak english. But those people who are bilingual feel more comfortable typing in english than speaking it because of pronunciation or accent.
VC isn't a solution for the battle system. get over it.
