The party matchmaking algorithm in the new PvP mode "Crystal Conflict" is flawed. Before I explain, I do have an easy solution to alleviate some of the issues which I will propose after I explain the issues.
The Story: I climbed my way to Silver, Tier 1 before losing back-to-back down to Silver, no stars. And then a perpetual back and forth. I'm a sad panda.
First Issue: the job balance is flawed. Melee trump in this mode, but ranged can be successful, when supported sufficiently by melee. But not all melee are equal. The BEST are: Warrior, Dragoon, Samurai and, by far, Ninja. These are "S" Rank jobs and how many are on your team usually is enough to determine who wins and loses. White Mage is leagues ahead of the other healers as well.
Next issue: The ladder. Matchmaking pins you against others that are not just equal to you, but also above and below your ranking. That means as a bronze, you will be matched with the unranked, bronze and silver. The problem is how it calculates the matchmaking. As a silver, you will be matched with either other silvers and golds, or with bronze and unranked. However, because you are silver, you will be in a party of unranked against a party of bronze and your teammates will hinder you more than help. Being a silver in this situation means losing because one player CANNOT carry their team.
The solution: DON'T have matchmaking consist of more than two ranks. Pair the ranks for optimum balancing. Unranked+Bronze, Bronze+Silver, Silver+Gold, etc. Also, either balance the jobs more, or categorize them so matchmaking is fairer. A party of 2 healers, a DRK, a BRD and SMN against a WAR, SAM, NIN DRG, WHM is just no contest.
I have proof of all of this. Countless matches as a silver where I was by far out-performing and had no chance of winning. Often, I out-performed the match; I often died the least (if at all), dealt decent damage, kills and/or assists, etc. Yet I often win when in a match of just silvers and golds. Having a party composed of those 2 ranks below you to "balance" your rank means losing. That's not balanced. The pics will be posted on Reddit with the same story. Grrrrrr, this needs some fixing...
