Problems with ALT+F

I have ALT+F bound to an action on my hotbars, yet when I press it, the action is only used if I'm standing still. If I'm moving, the action won't be used, and my character momentarily stops moving for a split second instead. Any ideas why this is happening? I can't find anything bound to ALT+F in the keybinds. Does anybody know what it does by default?

Seems to work for me. By default it is set to change your chat mode to FC chat. If moving I'll stop to enter chat mode.
Are you sure you've updated your keybind accordingly? If so, is your chat mode changing?

Make sure Alt+MovmentKeys aren't bound. If they are, when you Alt+F to perform your action it will also trip the Alt+?? key that is eclipsing your movement keybind and you will stop moving. Similar problems will happen when any Modifier+MovementKey is set to some function.

My chat mode is not changing and it's definitely bound correctly,

and I can't find anything bound to ALT+W/A/S/D at all in my keybinds.

Just to be certain, have you tried binding those keys to anything to see if the conflict warning pops up? It's easier and more effective than looking through all your keybinds.

Unfortunately the question is relevant to me, as the same thing happened. Would guess that some application in the background is overwriting the combination, or something in the settings of the keyboard itself?..

Whatever your movement keys are, attempt to set bindings that include every possible combination of modifier keys you might press. For example, if your movement keys are QWES and you play with alt and sh modifiers, you should test binds for alt+Q, alt+W, alt+E, alt+S, sh+Q, sh+W, sh+E, sh+S, sh+alt+Q, sh+alt+W, sh+alt+E, sh+alt+S.

If any of these attempts trigger a warning about a binding conflict, OK it to clear the conflict. If the other function is something you need bound, you should bind it to something else that doesn't use the movement keys at all. If you don't, you will stop moving any time you press those modifier keys.


You do not need to keep these test bindings; you can clear them when you're done. The important thing is to Overwrite any conflicts so that you don't have movement keys in chords that are used for other things. Remember to Apply your keybinds at the end.

It has not been mentioned yet so I'll ask - what keyboard are you using?

Before I upgraded my keyboard I had a similar issue where I couldnt use Shift + 4 (part of my AOE) when I was pressing any movement keys other than W. What you are experiencing is likely key ghosting, a phenomenon commonly associated with membrane keyboards or badly made mechanical keyboards where certain key combinations can't be pressed due to the keyboard circuit blocking itself with certain key presses.

TL;DR: There is a chance this is a mechanical issue of your keyboard.

I am now experiencing this issue in the future of 2025. I have Alt + F as one of the hotkeys on my hotbars that I can't use while moving, just moving in general, not just pressing W. This doesn't work on any of my characters. I can use the other Alt + keys while moving, except for F. The difference is that I don't stop for a split second when I press Alt + F while moving, it just doesn't register for some reason. I've already done the methods above, testing keybinds to find any conflicts, but there are none whatsoever.
