A LOT of gender locked stuff in the store

I was really happy to see that a lot of items in the game had their gender lock removed this last patch. I'm all for guys wearing skirts (they already did with robes anyway!) and vice versa. This really seemed like progress in allowing us to dress our characters the way we want.


Having not looked at what was available in the online store in quite a few years, I decided just now to try the new Dreamfitting system (lets you try on unbought items from your bed). It was really disheartening to repeatedly see that my character couldn't try on almost half the outfits.


I personally play a female character whose favourite outfit is the WVR twintail suit, not exactly a feminine style. I was looking forward to trying on some lordly outfits, expecting the shop gear to have become less restrictive just like the in game gear. Considering it would mean more people buying more stuff, you'd think SE would be all for making things available, but no.

These things take time, I don’t think SE should pour all their resources to get this done ASAP… especially considering in just 6,1 they already made quite a few outfits unisex.

I'd imagine it's because a lot of the clothing that does end up on the store isn't necessarily designed and created by the same team that works on the standard in game gear. It's basically considered outside work that is financed by the store directly instead of part and parcel of the standard game development. That said, I do agree it would absolutely be nice to see more of that stuff available cross gender.

Jokes aside tho, I never see anyone wear this stuff seriously.
Imo the female gear tends to look significantly better and more varied too but overall clothing for men tends to be a lot more restrictive and less varied than clothing for women irl too.
There might be some pieces you could use for glam tho.

Altho they're working on this in the end of the day I don't think it is or should be a high priority.
The truth is that the overwhelming majority will still wear what's available currently this is more of a niche issue.
I dunno how much effort I'd like to see them put into something 99% of people will either use for a meme ( albeit funny at times, especially the M Roegadyn ones ) or very few who use them seriously here and there.
The resources and time that goes into it is resources that could go elsewhere ( like new glam items ).

So it's just matter of time they unlock mogstation gear
