Wise to the World/Eureka Moment

I'm posting this thread to see what everyone else thinks of this ability/proc because after a couple hours of gathering this morning, I'm ready to rage quit MIN/BTN for a while. I must be the unluckiest gatherer in the world because Wise to the World never seems to proc from Ageless Words/Solid Reason - the game says 50% but I swear my success rate with it is closer to 10%. Clearly I've angered the RNG gods when a coin-flip proc never seems to go my way, but this is such a feels-bad ability considering it's the level 90 unlock.

I'd like to see some kind of stacking system where the chance to proc is increased with every failed proc because dropping 300 GP in the hopes that something starts flashing just sucks. Or even just a straight increase to 75% right off the bat so I'm not throwing GP down the drain constantly when gathering collectibles hoping that my level 90 skill actually does something.

Anyone else feel this way about the ability or is it just me?

It really is about 50% but like you I have my really bad streaks at times. I genuinely believe whatever they use for the RNG seeds in this game are flawed because I have long streaks happen far more often than they should.

Best thing to do is sort out where using Ageless Words/Solid Reason (plus the Wise to the World procs) is always a benefit to you over using your GP for direct yield. That can be tricky since you also need to account for Gatherer's Boon procs that will affect the end yield.

If you're after spiritbonding, use them. If you're trying to spawn hunt S ranks that are chance on gathering attempt, use them. The synergy with the collectable system seems to be fairly decent so they're worth using there.

Yeah, I don't doubt that it is 50% in the code, as it says in the tool-tip and I had a couple lucky streaks a few months back where it was more like 90% proc rate. The RNG gods are just fickle beings.
Truthfully I only really bother with it when I'm doing collectibles in the hope I can get a couple more 1000 collectibility collections, and when I end up pulling more mats than there are integrity points it's a great feeling but lately I swear it's just been like throwing GP down the drain for little to no gain.

Correct, if the chance to success is 50%, it fails 90% of the time. thats how it always works with %chances in games.

It's been 50% for me. By that I mean I've had both bad luck streaks, good luck streaks and other times where it's fairly even.

It's important to remember that RNG is random. It's not consistent. Hitting 1/10 or 10/10 on a 50% chance is completely possible. That's how random works. If you consistently hit 5/10 every time, it wouldn't actually be truly random.

As for whether it should be RNG, I wouldn't be against Wise to the World having a fair GP cost instead. But in the long run it balances out so I'm fine with it either way.

Ideally, if one has enough stats, one should NOT be using "Solid Reason/Ageless Words + Wise to the World" for gathering the new Raw Eblan Danburite or Thavnarian Corn anyway, right?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think King's Yield II + Nald'thal's Tidings + Mountaineer's Gift II (Blessed Harvest II + Nophica's Tidings + Pioneer's Gift II) would give better yield, which is 44 every time assuming the random +2 bonus is proc'ed on the node (32 if not proc'ed).

I see people using "Solid Reason + Wise to the World" so very often when gathering the new mats. I checked their gear, and they have stronger overmelds than me, which puzzles me a lot...

They do it for the extra spiritbond. Mat yield is more consistent with what you list but for someone trying to farm materia for the next round of advanced melding, it's worth losing a few on yield to get spiritbond completed 50-100% faster.

No idea. I said I was gathering collectibles (to farm for scrips) and Kings Yield, Nald'Thal, Mountaineer and all the rest of the abilities you've mentioned aren't used at all. I *only* use Solid Reason/Ageless + Wise (if it pops) when I'm doing collectibles.

Ah, I see... Lately, the new mats have been the hottest selling items, so I thought you were doing those. I earned over 10 mil in a few day's time selling those, and it was quite nice. If collectables, yes, Solid Reason is definitely the way to go.

If you have the stats it is, as stated above, an inferior rotation.

I am not quite fully melded in the iL 560 gear and using HQ Crab Cakes I have:

Gathering 3315, perception 3407, and 970 GPs < the important part.

PG II, NT, BlH2, BouH 2, gather 5 times, BouH II, last gather. Add it up.
