    Let's have Tents

    Tents were only used from up to FF9. I personally would like to see how in a MMO it would be applyed.

    Whats a Tent...?

    In past FF's Tent was a item that could heal all your party members in a Field Area or at a save point.

    Few ideas...

    /tent emote just for fun. Kinda like /sit.

    Retainer Shop maybe in Field Zones.

    Way to get Bed bonus when you log out in a Field Zone.

    The real question is, what purpose would they serve? Our MP and health already regen fast enough. Tents in previous games were used because there was no out of combat regen.

    We don't have to be able to use them in the outside world. Maybe a huge dungeon with something that affects region rate? I don't know if it would even be feasible, but it would be a nice throwback to old Final Fantasies, like much of this game has been.

    In-addition to acting as they do in other FF's, they could serve to buff the party with meaningful benefits. The tent would have a long recast timer (30min~).

    If someone new joins the party and uses a tent, it will start everyone's timers all over again. Usable only at aetherytes & gates (maybe accompanied by a short CS).

    Finally, if the party is race-based, then the tent's size will change to accommodate. There would be a rare event that a Bear might attack the party as well (esp, if anyone has Honey on them).

    My concept of tents would be an option that would allow you to save mid-dungeon so you could carry on later on. Rather then have small fast-paced dungeons, they introduce dungeons which would take some time but for those who might not have enough time they could "save" their progress and continue at a later time.

    The only thing to keep in mind though is that they would have to have the same people with them when they re-enter the dungeon so it would pretty much be designed for static groups.

    I like the idea for several reasons. It allows the Devs to design some longer dungeons, possibly with some forks and branches, but still give folks with limited time chances to do them. Uses a classic FF item to do so. And would look really neat.

    I'd like to add some uses also.

    -Since theres some random campfires used for quests in many places (and if tents are used, come 2.0 some could be strategiclly placed) You could also use tents to return a sellers purpose to Retainers.

    Find a campfire, place a tent. Select a single Retainer Place retainer Traveling merchant.
    Place a Duration of X, and a cool down of X.
    Want to set up and sell arrows near a dungeon? Dark matter? maybe potions?

    -Also like the rested XP, for those who have to Log out in a bit of a hurry (though the Inn warp kinda ends the need)

    -Maybe a Remote way to send things to storage/retainers/bank. Some games have this as a helper your summon for a moment. Would be a neat twist if you dropped a tent that had bags and chests as the "inside" decoration.

    -And the final use, Role play. If calling a tent brought up a chair or two, or maybe a log to sit on infront of a camp fire, it could be a very fun way to roleplay on location. And have people who are out and about come by, have a seat and chat with you.

    (along this vein i'll mention something from a MMO called Tera Online. It has a mechanic where to regain "stamina" you stand near a fire, can make your own or go to a town/outpost. The mechanics don't matter (nor are really applicable to FF14, nor do i want them to be), but what this also accomplishes is people randomly congregate at camp fires.

    Camp fires are a natural meeting place, even if there are bonuses or not, for the sheer fun of gathering round the fire, it could be really neat to have some tents openworld.

    I do think that if Tents are to be multipurpose, something like having a tent only placeable at those camp fire locations. there should be only one placeable, but accessable by all. (maybe 2-3 tents around the camp fire so it looks like more Multi-person) You avoid:

    -An entire map taken up by tents with one person at each, which would honestly be pretty lame to see.
    -Fights over Camping spots (depending on the Retainer idea, which may not be the best idea, but its AN idea)
    -Tents becomming nothing but an elaborate "potion".

    Instead you have an item you, and anyone else who joins in, can get the "advantage" of. Spur of the moment or group gathering spot, and some fun roleplay. As far as extream usefulness, the quoted idea is an excellent idea for In-dungeon use. I'd like to see some open world useage also

    (and if they put a fireplace in caves, have bedrolls show up instead of tents

    From an MMO standpoint, implementing a tent is an awkward thing.

    The only way tents would be viable other than as a weird AFK emote is if there was a situation in game that called for a player to need one. Like a dungeon that was overly long and had to be completed in phases (as someone suggested). But the game is already strewn with options that allow you to leave the game quickly, and/or heal up quickly. Large maps are dotted with crystals to warp to and return to upon death. There's no long journeys for us to take that would require a tent. Unless the game were to be redesigned around them, tents wouldn't be able to serve much purpose.

    Not saying I wouldn't be for an AFK emote that turned me into a moogle tent.



    because that'd be a Goobbue-riding level of cool.

    Besides, when you think about it, you already have tents. They're the huts surrounding every crystal camp. You just can't use them.

    Well on that note, I think huts surrounding crystal camp should be functional. This will bring more life to those static camps. Have the huts bigger and function like an inn, that if you logout in it, you get exp bonus. But this is quite a dilemma if you only receive 4 Guildleves, there's really no reason to hang around in the camp.

    Having an inn at camps works in WoW because they have quest chains and long quests given by NPCs at the camp. On that note, NPCs at camp should also offer some quests. Also they can offer automatic chocobo rides that connect between each camp.
