I think what bothers me the most is that the game mode is actually really fun. Like, if it was a total lost cause I'd get my Archfiend set and leave without a word, but you can see that they definitely HAVE something positive here that I want to see realised, and am frustrated that it will need more time to do so.

Well I don't think wintrading happened because people didn't have time to play the game. The pvp was absolute garbage prior to this patch. Don't think pvp ever had an active time as it has now. It was always dead.The #1 player on the Data Centre gets an Adventurer Plate kit, as do the Top 100, hence the head-scratching as to why they just repeated the same mistakes they made with The Feast. Exclusive rewards for the people that have more time than others creating another culture of Win Trading/Boosting.
No serious pvper who came to ffxiv put anytime in to it. At one point you even had to do your whole 123 123, pop a cd, 123 123, 123, 123, while using off gcds.
Even making the combos in to 1 buttons was horrible.
Also more time doesn't equal to more wins. Take a new player playing 200 hrs & a very skilled pvper playing 100hrs, you think the new player will hit a higher rank? Theres skill involved. People who constantly nag on "luck" all the time, are the people who never rise. Now I do know theres addons, plugins, cheats etc and i hope they adress them & remove them, start banning people. Otherwise it would be a shame to see pvp die out again.


The different ranks give you rank specific portrait material. You don't need to be top whatever, you just need to attain the rank and after the season is over, you got to the NPC and collect the material for all ranks you made it through.
Ah, so garbage. No point in fighting the RNG just to watch my stars drop from things out of my control. Much appreciated for the info!

The current problem of the ranked system isn't that you play a 5v5, but 1v4v5... And the unbalanced job distribution doesn't help at all... I know it's to make the queue as quick as possible but it shouldn't be hard to make sure that everytime, bar exeptionally low player numbers, you should find the same numbers of tank/healer/dps on each team but that is not the case.
The game itself IS fun as hell, but the ranked is UTERLY based upon chance. Too much unbalanced rng in the compo for it to do anything else but pray you got three times in a row a god compo, even IF having actual pvp skill help it still doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.
edit: It also REALLY doesn't help that MOST players panically TAB aways their targets without any rhyme or reasons, making them endlessly hits tanks, or other worthless targets instead of priority, and easy kill ones... That's also a very big issue.

The latter part I'm willing to give a pass in and of itself given that there will always be a disparity between player skill levels. However, in other games like APEX and OW, teaming up with friends and coordinating makes it so that you can push through that skill level and get to where your actual skill level is. It gets more and more frustrating. A ranking is just crap with that much rng involved.
I already care less about comps and skills than about afk players.


Been stuck in a loop of getting of good team, winning, then getting a team that acts like a bunch of afkers and then that star is gone already. Love this mode and want to do well in it, but the rng on your rank is frustrating.
Yes, agree. At least allow people to talk about a strat would be good.
I already have to deal with afk memes. Having people dying left and right
while they discuss issues (or animes) wont be an help either.
