One of the most frequently used complaint/excuse about the old system being "unfair" was people claiming that their job/life/kids/etc "gated" them out of being able to buy a house. With this system and the cycle length they can't really use that excuse anymore.
What makes you think that it works otherwise right now? From what I understood, you can't have more than one single bid. Period.
How exactly did you come to conclusion that someone is "bidding on 4 or 5 medium plots" at the same time? o_O
You can bid on multiple but you lose 50% of the cost if you cancel one. So if they won a plot, they would lose 50% for each other house they bid on.
And thats the problem 1% of people often hardcore players hogging up an entire market.6 Wards : 19 - 20 - 21 - 22 - 23 - 24
It's not just you, it's a vast number of people on the NA forums who are getting it wrong.
Make an alt each.... invite each other's alts to your fc.... bid on FC house?
Additionally, once you do that, BOTH place a bid on the same property and double your chances.
Well the good news is that you can't have more than 1 bid out. Personal Home owners can only bid once during a lottery period, and you cannot bid on a personal if you have an active bid for a FC. Now FCs can have multiple bids out as it is a per character thing, so large FCs can put in large numbers of bids across the board so long as they have the gil. This system is even more unfair than the last one. I would rather sit around clicking a board all day than to have my name thrown in a pot with umpteen other people, and then have to wait FOR DAYS, without my money, until you award the house randomly. You've got people out there bidding on 4 or 5 medium plots right now, but you can only own ONE. You shouldn't be able to have more than one bid out at a time. THAT is fair.
Hmmm, I dunno then. Was pretty sure thay you simply can't do that.
Do you know someone who was actually able to place multiple bids?
Edit:
Just tried placing one more bid for another plot and got: "You may only submit one lottery entry per lottery period."
Even tried placing that extra bid from my second character and got: "No more land may be purchased on this world by characters attached to this service account" error. But thats for FC and we already have a house and simply try to relocate. May be it's only possible for those who don't own a house whatsoever?

Private housing was a mistake to begin with, Crafted Hard to make? dude if anything it's way too easy and markets are oversaturated with them they need to make them harder to craft again like Heavensward and Materia less accessible.I just want to say that I've never been more horribly let down by a game in my life. Twice now. Once because 6.0 was just a really, really, REALLY long movie. Now, because of housing. The one freaking thing in the game I absolutely want to participate in, and you've gone and ruined it once more.

You limited personal housing to only 5 out of 24 wards. I just spent an hour running through all the FC wards. Most houses have zero bids. Go to the personal ward, EVERY PLOT has over 7 bids already, regardless of size. Not to mention my girlfriend and I can't even purchase one of those unbid-on plots for our FC, because it's just the two of us, not four. That's random. How do 4 people deserve a guild house more than 2 people?
I just can't with this company anymore. It's like the twilight zone of MMOs. The decision making lately just blows from a consumer standpoint, and from a player standpoint.
Oh yeah, thanks soooo much for the shiny new crafting/gathering gear that's ridiculously hard to make and requires massive amounts of materials. Since that exact gear is the ONLY gear in the game currently that REQUIRES that gear to make, it's POINTLESS. Do you guys actually look at what your doing before, during, and after you're doing it? That's a complete circular pattern there. I've been disappointed by you for the last time, SE. It was fun, but this current attitude isn't gonna cut it for me anymore.
Aside from 4.x and 5.x historical rollout precedents (or possibly because of them), I expect this release of Pact gear is to set us up for 6.2x and beyond. Logistically, for both players and Square, it is nice to have the turmoil of full scale gearset replacement complete and settled before the bulk of forthcoming crafting recipes (that require Pact power) appear. Also, having that gear done gets a lot of macro-engineering out of the way, and is kinda handy in the Materia sense because the appearance of it, about now, suggests that now is a nifty time to do much of the dreaded penta-melding with IX and X Materia. Post 6.2x, IX and X prices, presently ghastly, will skyrocket. So... do eet now... and avoid the agony latah. Btw, if you need help with this stuff, find da Shootah on Sarg.. let's see if we can get you set up.

I feel your pain on wanting a house; best of luck to ya! Really curious to see how many folks wait until the last moment and what that does to the numbers on the individual plots. In the meantime I'm going to run a bunch of ARR dungeons on alts and enjoy the new lighting and boss fights. Totally diggin' the new patch!
I love to decorate as much as anyone else and would dearly love to have a larger space to house an RP venue in, but you're not wrong. I've bought and lost two houses over the years, the last time in Stormblood and the lack of one in 100% honesty hasn't reduced my enjoyment of the game or negatively impacted my game play in any significant manner other than being able to walk away for a couple months if I feel like it.
If you have alts that are eligible to purchase land they can bid on whatever plot you want as long as you're willing to risk the lost Gil should the Twelve be gracious and you win more than one. I had both my main and alt place bids on the same plot even, two chances out of the many are better than one, right?
