Something that it's not - and that never works.

FFXIV tried to be anti-WoW version of WoW when it should have been an improved FFXI. FFXIV had a sense of newness, but killed itself by failing at everything FFXI did.

Even still, don't you think their vision should be bigger than just: "let's imitate a bunch of games?"

Even if they had taken it upon themselves to make FFXIV a new and improved FFXI, it begs the question: improved how? What's the direction they should take to improve FFXI?

When making a game, a definitive direction is needed first and foremost. Only after this should other games be looked at.
