To Devs about Adventurer Plates

I don't think you understand how damaging bad publicity can be for a game, especially when you think about Austrailia's PEGI system. It is entirely possible the game could get outright banned in certain countries over sexual depictions and cause huge losses in revenue. So while I don't think it necessarily needs people to get outraged, it is something that SE needs to handle with care.

There have been well established cases in history where a game got into trouble over things the players did (like GTA's Hot Coffee mod).

Even within FFXIV, Yoshida has explicity said "Do not do sexual screenshots".

While he is talking mods here, SE has cracked down on specific players for posting inappropriate screenshots (basically "Gravure" style pics).

Then stick a tidbit about Adventurer Plates in the ToS, make "inappropriate" pictures reportable, and I think we can all move on happily. With plates being as new as they are, this is going to be the time when the majority of people misusing it will be doing so. It'll fall off after a month or so, and then the slim number of people still doing silly things with their plates can just be reported and taken care of.

The adventurer plates are not mods.

They were not cracking down on inappropriate screenshots. They were cracking down on modded screenshots.

These are entirely different. They have never actioned players for "obscene" screenshots, only for materials license violations. None of the adventurer plates are altered, everything is available in-game.

You can't possibly believe in this day and age that the game devs do not care about what could explode into a bad news story and cause age ratings to change and potentially a loss of revenue.

lol no they don't have to be deemed inappropriate outside of the portraits. here's a simple reason why - you can't really frame yourself holding your manhood in the game outside of the portraits the way you can with the plate. sure you can say "but gpose" but you can't interact with people's screenshots unless they're posted outside of the game.

fishing poles, bikinis, or whatever aren't inherently inappropriate, it's the way people pose themselves with it. why blame the items because people can't control their degeneracy?

Provide 1 link that shows them actioning an account for Obscene screenshots that isn't using mods or editing.

It's extremely relevant. Here's what the Prohibited Activities page says

"Please note that Square Enix may issue a penalty at its discretion even if a report has not been filed but the act was found being conducted in public areas such as Say and Shout, search comments, Party Finder, on online video/streaming services, if the behavior is found to violate real world laws, or if it may be considered a problem based on the game's entertainment board ratings."

These cases you're linking are posting edited screenshots with SE copyright. That's a materials violation, and advertises potentially harmful content that isn't in the game.

Anything possible in the Adventurer Portraits is possible in the rest of the game though.

I guarantee you that you would probably not be able to achieve those results of the lewd plates without heavily going through g-pose lol, just because the poses are available in the game doesn't really mean anything other than the fact that people abused the poses/items to frame their plates in a sexual manner.

And notice how it's never really been a problem either way until we had a way to interact with people's gpose through the plates. :P

edit: replying to your edited bit - again unless you're g-posing it'd be harder. Surely you can see how /pose in 2b tights vs. a still picture of you mooning the camera or simulating you giving a handy andy are very different things? Sure what's inappropriate can be subjective, but call me the optimist on believing that a reasonable person would be able to tell you which one is blatantly inappropriate in my above example lol.

Lewd/suggestive poses using in game tools only clearly is going to be M under Classifications. To hit MA15+ requires a implied sex scene/implied drug use.

No need to clutch your pearls so hard, really. It might be before your time, but our ABC were showing full frontal nudity in 1972.

You need to make this go mainstream to maximize its value. Therefore please remove the little commendation tab at the bottom right of the screen at the end of the dungeon and then:

1. When you exit a dungeon the screen changes to the new commendation screen displaying adventurer plates
2. You click on the one you want to commend or a No Thanks/Skip
3. You load into the overworld

Then, people will actively be very interested in making their plates as cool as possible.

Late Edit, this is more or less what I mean, taken directly from the PVP page and modified with Paint a bit.

Personally, I’d prefer to see them when loading into a dungeon versus them being a commendation overlay. Maybe they could also make it for 8-man stuff, but 24-man raids might be tricky. Maybe only show your alliance?

I think the plates showing upon loading in are a neat touch. Even if some are…questionable.
