How are y'all keeping their mouths open? I try to freeze in the middle of say the "cheer" animation and my characters face goes back to normal after I save and go back to portraits.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I just pause it at a very specific time during the animation. My character's face doesn't reset, at least during the emotes I did/do.

If you have an expression selected, it can get a bit fiddly. Make sure you have no expression selected, then change to the emote you want (If you're already on the emote, switch off to another, then back).
Are you selecting the correct portrait? ((Just asking because that's the simplest explanation for what you're encountering.))
Was feeling cheeky. May delete later.
Yeah.. This is what I was doing too... but my face always resets.
I do have it on "none" so I dunno what's happening.
it's the exact right portrait.. it just doesn't hold the expression for some reason. Swapping to it SHOWS the right expression for a moment but it just DROPS off your face and I get what's below.
this is basically what happens. On the left is what I want to have. Paused at the perfect time. no expression selected. From there I just hit save... however. on the right is what my portraits show.
As the window likes to remind me.. this is a beta version.. so I expect bugs but I'm a little annoyed OTHERS can seem to get this to work but I can't. There's a couple posts in the bugs forum about changing hairstyles fixing things .. so I'll try that later today I guess.

I did some testing with cheer. I think there must be some issue with that portion of the cheer's animation. I paused my character at what should be around the same as yours. Saving the portrait resets her face. However, pausing at an earlier time during the animation, her expression is saved.

Weirdly enough it's nice to see this isn't a "me" problem and someone else can duplicate it. I guess I'll submit this as a bug and find a more "stable" point in the animation to work with.I did some testing with cheer. I don't know if this helps, but my strong suspicion is that "None" is not handled as "do not override the expression", but rather that the expression is always overridden (which the "switch to plate, watch expression change" behavior seems to support), and if you do "None" it picks the next expression keyframe in the pose animation to use as the override. Which kinda makes sense; it's not how I would have done it, but it could actually be a reasonable abstraction to keep bits of logic separate. But it feels like it only jumps forward to "next frame", never backwards (e.g. "nearest frame")... and so presumably if the animation relies on a "back to default" blend to lose the expression as the animation ends, you might have basically no expression keyframes in the later part of the pose. And thus, presumably, get the "straight face" pose as a default.
Again, just a gut feeling, but I've had better luck freezing pose expressions earlier in the animation rather than later, which does at least provide circumstantial evidence.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer
