    It has to be timed right. The Source has to be primed and ready to recieve the flood of aspected aether from the designated shard, otherwise that aether has nowhere to go and just ruins the shard instead.

    Once it's ruined it's ruined, you can't turn a pile of ashes back into the tree it once was (well maybe we can, depends where the story goes I suppose. The Ascians never figured it out though, that much is certain.)
