im really happy with how myths of the realm was handled.

but it does bring up the question of how correct is the knowledge of the aetheric sea and the fate of souls.

    as for the msq

i had a mini fan freakout over the four fiends and garland. plus i wanted to hug a certain dragon boy.

I was surprised how quickly our next big undertaking is unfolding, but what weirds me out is that the void stuff is kinds of brushed off as '' just another fun adventure for the WoL, not a world-ending threat or anything '' when I can sense several red flags on how things might go horribly wrong and have disastrous consequences for the Source. I'm personally expecting voidgates to start appearing in the Source, and at least one character succumbing to the void and becoming a voidsent. Unsure about Zenos' avatar, but if it truly is Azem's shard from the Thirteenth, that'll be quite intriguing, both to us AND Zenos, albeit post-humously.

Speaking of flags, Y'shtola's eagerness to travel to the Thirteenth and her sudden burst of personality and focus is raising all kinds of death flags for me. With how she smiled at the revelation of the voidgate, I was fully expecting her to go rogue, and I still kind of am. I do expect some manner of disaster to fall upon her, and before that happens, the writers are going to have fun with her character as much as possible, as we saw in the patch content. Either way, I welcome more focus on Y'shtola, considering how she has been neglected recently.

Varshan/Vtra getting such focus and it even being alluded that we are partying up with him makes me extremely happy. I wonder if he is going to create a more... adult sized simulacrum, as we build a big enough voidgate with the artificial Atmos. I hope the writers give him more to do than just pine for his elder sister though.

The humor was on point this patch, and WoL gets to be quite funny and snarky themselves. G'raha is still super adorable, and I don't mind his fanboying/feelings for the WoL.

Lastly, I have to wonder how extensive the void arc will be. Considering we were told Krile and Thancred are supposed to be getting more MSQ focus, yet because they are yet to be really present, it doesn't seem like the void stuff will be all we do in the coming patches, especially since we've already built our dream team of Estinien, Y'shtola and Varshan. Also, because I doubt Thirteenth is habitable, I wonder whether void-related content will be mostly dungeons and trials, or whether we'll actually travel to Thirteenth for a longer visit. I'm expecting a dungeon+trial combo in 6.3-6.5, at least.

I guess we guessed correctly with what could have been happening with the tower. Everything except for Anima's heart. Of course Nerva is going to be the end boss from Amurot. When Nero said he had his sights on the stars I automatically went "wait is he a shard of Fandaniel?" I also probably thought this due to having paid attention to what he says during his fight in Prae. I did the reworked instance to get mentor status back. Some how I forgot that he says things like I've gone and made the stage Electric and that the Death claw might be handy. Are all high ranking Garleans just theater kids? It was nice seeing all the "side" characters.

    Myths of the relm

Deryk is so sus. There has to be something going on with a guy who "just" happened to be trying to find the phantom realm. Like what was he doing when he somehow found out a small part of the lake can be walked on? It's way too much of a coincidence that nothing happened during his multiple visits to the area until we step foot inside and the 100% are not primals. Please stop calling us that. Gods show up and want to punch us. When I finished the Nhald'Thal fight I looked at him and asked "We?" Who's we? You just watched me and 23 others wipe twice, stumble over the finish line vs Azyema and group think how to deal with the judgement mechanic in the last fight. Also either I had slight lag at times or some attacks are very zippy in how fast they go off.

    MSQ

If my WoL is found dead in the jungles of Thavnir it'll be due to the fact I chose to sass a certain cat lady twice. I love how when we saw G'Raha in the trailer it looked like he was upset when it really was just him trying to hold back his wanting to go treasure map exploring. I love how it's cannon that it's just normal for NPCs and others to host map nights. I loved how Y'shtola asked Estinien just how much did he pay for the map if you have them both in the dungeon and get to the area where the gold starts popping up. The most annoying thing is not having the WoL having an option to bring up the two teenagers that can open up void gates. Or that we've already sent a porxie into the 13th to find out information about it.

I wasn't expecting more FF IV, but it looks like we will be getting Golbez and the Four Elemental Fiends as our trial. Cause his theme playing in the background after he shows up is a dead give away. That and the armor is spot on. I do wonder if he'll have a hidden relationship with someone. As he was Cecil's brother who was unknowingly being controlled by Zeromus.

We all hoped/guessed that they would do something with Zenos's reaper Avatar. When we first see him when we fall asleep during Tataru's sewing I for a bit didn't think it was a scene from the 13th as it just looks like a purple and dark looking Azys La. Which is odd to me that they would have a floating and ruined exactly the same way temple of Sephirot. The 2nd time we see them and it's made clear who/what it was I just groaned. I am just so done with anything to do with Zenos.

Funny thing that I learned about the Ishgardian housing ward is that Aymeric will show up in a dark blue elephant mascot costume at various spots and interact with other npcs.

    Myths of the Realm

With the Greek theme and obvious Amaurot architecture in Omphalos, plus Emet knowing their truth, it's pretty clear the Twelve were created by the ancients. For what purpose I can't even guess though. There's the Azem-Azeyma connection Urianger brought up in 5.3, so maybe they were meant to be copies of the Convocation?

I assume this is the secret of Silvetear that Midgardsormr was watching over too.

I don't believe for a second that Deryk just stumbled upon Omphalos, or that he was able to explore the heavens without seeing any gods there. He was sent by them, and may not even be a Hyur.

The opo-opo is for sure another god in animal form like Rhalgr's hawk.

Ultimately I think I agree with the sentiment that I liked it when the Twelve were entirely just a cultural thing, I thought that was interesting and unique in a fantasy setting when so many other settings just say "yeah the religion is objectively true, the god actually does exist", so the gods actually really existing is kind of lame to me. But at least it's not 1:1, like their heavens aren't actually afterlives, and as Deryk pointed out the Nald'thal statues don't look exactly the same as the real guys. I can accept "they exist but not exactly as people see them."

The line occurs in 'A Brother's Grief' a little while after speaking with Vrtra's Alchemist, and cross-checking it with a different playthrough, it does seem to only show up if you're actively on the Reaper job, regardless of whether you've got it at max level:

G'raha: An ancient mechanism channeled the tower's vast stores of energy to open a voidgate ─ one bound to a covenant made with the Cloud of Darkness.
Once that sovereign entity was beaten back, however, the covenant was broken, and the doorway severed from its connection to the void.
Theoretically, it should be possible to reconnect the gate by forging a new pact with another voidsent... but such deals usually end in betrayal and death.

Y'shtola: You seem to have struck a bargain of your own, <playername>. Though it serves you well in battle, be aware that the beneficial nature of your “arrangement” is the exception which proves the rule.

I like seeing these little flourishes. I really wish that they had fleshed out the lore on the voidsent that you're personally contracted to during the Reaper questline. Hopefully this business in the thirteenth will give them more ways to expand on this.
Honestly, this was my only take away from the MSQ. I never played FFXI or FFIV so the references didn't really have any meaning for me. But this flourish here form Y'shtola...YES! It was so immersive since I'm a RPR main.

Here we are going to the Void and my character draws on a voidsent for power. It's like a picked "the right job" for the story. Similar to how I geeked out the first time my character was referred to as the Lightbringer back in 2.0 since her name is heavily inspired by the Greek goddess Artemis, who was the Lightbringer. It's moments like this that really make me love this game even more from an RP standpoint.

As for the story itself, I was a little surprised to see the Scions have such a prominent role again, but I guess I shouldn't since we haven't met any new characters yet to take their place. I assume that's coming in future patches. At first I thought it might be that professor we have to get drunk to get information from, but don't think he's going to be a main character going forward.

Also, I could be misreading this, but it seemed as though Y'shtola was getting serious death flags (again), or at the very least, strong hints that she will find a way to the First once and for all, and just stay there. But you never know.

Guessing I should go back and play FFIV now .

Patch 6.1 update to 2.0 Finale boss fight being a 10/10 improvement...

This is actually a great change to 2.0 finale boss fight. Lahabrea is no longer a joke is a actual Finale Boss fight and this fight is a actual 1 versus 1 fight between WoL and Lahabrea. They literally went full level of Zenos boss fight effort with the new 2.0 Lahabrea boss fight.

Here is a video showing the new 6.1 Lahabrea 2.0 finale boss fight....

I don't recall it ever being officially billed that way. Fans have just been latching onto the idea that "they said they were ending the Hydaelyn and Zodiark storyline in 6.0 so 6.1 must be a fully fresh start for newbies" – which simply isn't the case.

Either this is going to be the second starting point but fully throwing newbies in the deep end (making it clear that the rest of the narrative is still important and not abandoned) or this is still the "wrapping up Season 1" stage and the fully new plot starts in 7.0. Though I wouldn't be surprised in that case if it was still the deep end.

I'm going to go with it still being the "wrapping up Season 1" stage simply because the new story appears to be tying up a previous loose thread. And I'm not sure we are going to spend the next 10 years (or however long the new arc lasts) dealing with it.

But it certainly serves as a jumping off point for whatever comes next.
