    Alliance Raid:
Well, they sure are an interesting bunch, that's for sure. As we are at the beginning, it's normal that we lack information yet. One of their own says Hydaelyn, meaning they know her existence or know her personally.

G'raha is speculating already that they come from the time of the Ancients but he has no proof. I made that statement as a foundation that those "Twelve" might be those who sided to Hydaelyn. Their forms is just so reminiscent of Hermes taking another form. Though knowing the writing team, I might be off.

    It stopped suddenly because
we need to wait for Cid to modify the warding scales and Nidhana to make the artificial Atomos. Those will take time

    Also I just realized
We're definitely going to get a Soken remix of FF4's Four Fiends theme

This was the best MSQ patch in recent memory. It's great to see the storytelling evolving, especially in all the little non-verbal details. The answer choices were great this time around, with some comedic gems in the reactions. The new Unending Codex feature is fantastic from the standpoint of making lore more accessible to the playerbase, and reminds me of FFT's Brave Story logs in format.

    MSQ:

It looks like there's something significant involving the moon(?) on the 13th, given that it gets highlighted in both of the cutscenes with Zenos' avatar. Given that the avatar describes the thirteenth as a 'world bereft of saviors', I'm guessing that they belong to a different faction to Golbez(?) and the Four Fiends. Speaking of which, I liked the tip off with FF4's 'Somewhere in the World' track running in the background as well as Scarmiglione's lisp. I have a feeling that, given the way that they speak of 'salvation' of their star, that they're probably the old comrades of Unukalhai and Cylva who were aetherically corrupted by the Flood of Darkness, similar to Ardbert's companions on the First. Looking forward to Rubicante in particular, he was a fun personality even back in FF4.

It looks like Estinien is channeling Batman in more ways than one. The fact that he's starting to show a bit of fiscal awareness after living in Thavnair for a while was a nice touch. It was interesting to glimpse some of the hidden motivation behind Y'shtola's shard research as well. Some of her optional banter lines were really well done. I think one difficulty at the moment is that they don't have enough trust characters involved just yet to do a complete narrative split, but it's early days. Also nice to see them situationally acknowledge if you've recently made a pact with a voidsent yourself.

Azdaja's story and the corresponding Meracydian lore drop was an excellent plot hook. The First Brood are a welcome break from being oversaturated with Amaurot.

    Myths of the Realm:

Much like Pandaemonium, we don't have a whole lot of new information yet to work with. The fact that the Omphalos/Navel is located over Lake Silvertear is interesting from a symbolic standpoint, especially if there turns out to be a connection made to the Lifestream in all this. I'm curious about the distinction that Byregot makes about being not being 'summoned', and how Nald'thal explains that Louisoix's summoning was something else altogether. That being said, I wonder if that just applies to his attempted containment of Bahamut or if it includes Althyk's teleportation/time jump as well. They look reminiscent of transformed Ancients, so perhaps that could explain why they were never actually summoned in the first place.

I'm going to assume you have to actually have the Reaper job equipped for that since I had it capped but didn't see any such mention.

    MSQ Thoughts:
The Good: I really liked the humor and a lot of little parts of the writing was very clever. Y'shtola finally had a chance to fully shine since she's mostly stepped into the shadows of some of the other Scions for quite some time. Another welcome comeback is the First Brood and the final mystery of the missing member. The nostalgia hit me hard on the new dungeon and made me miss the good old ToAU days, minus the pesky truesight imps and hidden chigoes. It also feels good to finally feel like an adventurer again and there's no greater threat of Ascians, Allagans, or Garleans anymore and we're taking a more proactive step in the story.

The Bad: Suddenly deciding to investigate the Bounty and a map auction happening right at the exact time felt more than a bit contrived and I felt like it could've been done in a better way. Then after that I feel like the cast has been taking stupid pills. It gives me the feeling like the writers were phoning in the plot for the sake of getting a dungeon in and to pad out the quests and it's a little disappointing.

A mysterious map connected to the family of the first satrap appears and it leads to a giant horde of treasure and has Vrtra pictured right there on top of a magical seal and no one at all thinks to take it to him to either ask him about it, ask if the map is genuine, or ask permission to plunder something he very obviously knows about and is related to considering his age and his depiction on said map.

Then we spend a few hours of game time wondering how we're going to do anything with the voidgate and like I thought would happen if The Void were brought up again, no one at all thinks to ask Unukulhai, who our WoL already knows is from the Thirteenth and during the Void Quests actively opens and closes voidgates. He and Cylva were brought up eventually, but a good deal of busy work could have been skipped by checking on on them. My hope is that after progressing in the MSQ, we will later unlock further progression in the Void quests and they won't be left with a dangling plot thread of what to do with the Void after we've already been there again.

Closing: Ultimately, a good deal of 6.1 could have been skipped by just going directly to Vrtra with the map, and after some exposition, bringing up that you know a couple of children in a parallel dimension who open voidgates for fun and a cat who used to work for the high voidmage of a fallen empire. But because they're locked behind optional content, the most they could ever impact is optional dialogue if you have met the requirements. While I can't see the Void quests being future story requirement, I wonder if the Void Ark quests will be made mandatory if this is the direction for the next few patches. The Void has been touched upon in many sidequests, with one group of them even being called "Void Quests" in the game itself in the Unending Journey, but it feels like the game's nature as an MMO is interfering with the storytelling again and it's frustrating.

I hope that I'm just not seeing the forest for the trees and that it will all come together eventually later on, but we have a 4-month break until we return so until then I guess I'll just stew over it.

    Alliance Raid Theory

A small but probably weak theory I've got running is that the Twelve are still a form of summoning. I see a lot of parallels between the four we've seen and various Greek Gods - for example, Byregot is much like Haephestus (forging/crafting), while Rhalgar is very much like Zeus (lighting aligned, visual distinction). We could see Azemya as a Apollo counterpart (as many have seen fitting to match to Azem), and it's not terribly far-fetched to see Nald'thal as Hades. Add to the fact that Nald'thal has some aspects that make me think of our in-game Hades, or at least his second form. The wings in particular draw the eye.

So what if the Twelve are something more of an idealized version of the Convocation members? Or rather, an ideal of their position and what it embodies? The flaw to this theory, of course, is that there are fourteen seats. At least two have to be taken away, while I would normally say Azem (Venat as Hydaelyn) and Elidibus (Zodiark), Azem has too many Azemya parallels to be removed. It could be another isn't present though.

    Examples:
Mitron / Neptune / Llymlaen (Mitron specialized in aquatic life, and Llymlaen is watcher of the seas and navigation)
Emet-Selch / Hades / Nald'thal (Both focus on being the "keeper of the underworld" though Nald'thal is also depicted as an overseer of transactions... which also kind of fits Emet given his visit to Elpis, acting as an overseer and judge.)
Azem / Apollo / Azemya (We get hints from Urianger that Azemya and Azim were potentially inspired by Azem, and Azemya is a goddess of inquiry, which could be further stretched to refer to our meddling in everything).
Pashtarot / Ares / Halone (Order and discipline, while Halone stands for war - this one is a stretch and better fits Athena, but she's the prior Lahabrea so she can't fit here. Ares does use the shield and spears motif that Halone has, though.)
Lahabrea / Haephestus / Byregot (Creation magic versus craftsmanship and design)

Now I will admit this is not a perfect parallel and there's a few I'm struggling to match up. For example, I could see Nophica and Halmarut (plants), but then I run into some weird ones like Menphina (Love, and the moons, which would relate to Venus (iirc other translations call Venat by that name)). Thaliak might line up with Igeyorhm (Scholar and rhetoric) but there's a lot of loose ends I haven't quite tied up. It's an imperfect theory, but I thought it might be an interesting line of inquiry.

Looking at your idea Zeich, I think it's something different than that.

It's possible that the Twelve are in fact the last surviving familiars of ancients, with the "Heavenly Realm" in fact being the last remains of Elpis. I got massive Elpis vibes while there, and them being familiars from before the Sundering would explain their massive power. Especially if they were the familiars of the remaining individuals who formed Hydaelyn, since that would explain their knowledge of things and why they never faded away...because Hydaelyn had been existing until recently.

I believe Anonymoose is busy with work and hasn't gotten to do the patch yet, hence the lack of a post :P

    Anywhooo

    MSQ:
I liked it! The direction the story is taking is interesting and honestly, I just find it funny that waaaaay back when I started playing this game in 2013, I initially thought that the voidsent were going to be focus of the story, or main enemy type or whathaveyou... Of course, they were still featured in the story, but they are definitely getting some serious screentime in this haha. I liked the moments of levity with Y'shtola. Hers is a character who, in all honestly, I'd gotten kinda bored of. She really did feel more human and relatable in these quests. Despite her character being rather stoic, I could actually feel her desire to get in there and find a way to travel to the reflections. Made her more endearing to me, considering my apathy towards her in the last few expansions.

I don't really have much to say with regards to Estinien and G'raha. Seeing the former become more involved with Thavnair and it's people was good. You can tell he cares about Vrtra. The latter, well... he's getting to take part in multiple adventures with the WoL and seeing his enthusiasm is both funny and cute. To be honest, I've never quite known how to feel about G'raha. Back when he was the Exarch, I felt kinda weird receiving so much obsequious flattery and admiration from him. I know the WoL is a hero to him and all but it's always felt odd. Y'know, it's like finding out someone absolutely adores you but you hardly even know them... Anyways that's neither here nor there. Despite the fanboyism, G'raha is a very earnest character, and I hope to see more of him going forward.

Oh, and I'm also really curious to see where Zenos' voidsent goes. I wish we'd gotten more of him but eh, we got this Golbez-lookin dude and a bunch of angry thrones so... lol, I'm satisfied for now.

    Myths of the Realm:
Interesting setup, for sure. I did not expect the gods to be messing with us like that. Extremely curious with regards to the actual nature of The Twelve. I've seen people speculate that Deryk is Oschon or whatever. Could be. Who knows. There's certainly something to him so I can't discard the possibility outright.

The instance itself felt like one of the tightest 24-man raids they've ever made. You could tell that the focus was squarely on the boss fights themselves. Very, very few trash encounters. You go from boss to boss to boss to boss rather quickly. One thing I found particularly funny was the fact that they showed us the spire of the Heaven of Lightning right at the start of the raid aaaaaand we make a hard right and start heading for Rhalgr's statue in the distance lmao.

Also, boy they went HARD with the spectacle in Nald'thal, though, huh... haha. Almost makes me feel bad for the previous three bosses. I suppose it's to be expected.

I'll try to make this short and sweet

funniest thing about trying to keep it all short and sweet is I keep typing out stuff then erasing it.

I guess the bottom line is I enjoyed it and the fact that Golbez is being shown in itlove him really. Granted I didn't realize it was the four fiends that he was speaking to and that really disturbs me since IV is my favorite of the FF games. Granted it could have been due to the fact that my satanic dogs (read Chihuahuas) were barking at absolutely nothing and distracting me while the elements were talking...

Loved being able to blame everything on Estinien and Y'shtola and laughed with the Sailor Moon esq summoning of the arcane entities. Can't wait to rewatch those cutscenes when I can. Vrtra's .. I mean Varshahn's face said it all after wards that I had to take a quick screen shot of it lol

Have some other thoughts as well but I figure they aren't what is going to happen so I'll decline with that.

Now I just gotta get home and finish the rest of the stuff

    Edit:
forgot to mention that I loved the call back to 1.0 and Atomos makes me remember good times of RMT death in Coerthas... Camp Riversmeet *tears up* soo beautiful

I was surprised how quickly our next big undertaking is unfolding, but what weirds me out is that the void stuff is kinds of brushed off as '' just another fun adventure for the WoL, not a world-ending threat or anything '' when I can sense several red flags on how things might go horribly wrong and have disastrous consequences for the Source. I'm personally expecting voidgates to start appearing in the Source, and at least one character succumbing to the void and becoming a voidsent. Unsure about Zenos' avatar, but if it truly is Azem's shard from the Thirteenth, that'll be quite intriguing, both to us AND Zenos, albeit post-humously.

Speaking of flags, Y'shtola's eagerness to travel to the Thirteenth and her sudden burst of personality and focus is raising all kinds of death flags for me. With how she smiled at the revelation of the voidgate, I was fully expecting her to go rogue, and I still kind of am. I do expect some manner of disaster to fall upon her, and before that happens, the writers are going to have fun with her character as much as possible, as we saw in the patch content. Either way, I welcome more focus on Y'shtola, considering how she has been neglected recently.

Varshan/Vtra getting such focus and it even being alluded that we are partying up with him makes me extremely happy. I wonder if he is going to create a more... adult sized simulacrum, as we build a big enough voidgate with the artificial Atmos. I hope the writers give him more to do than just pine for his elder sister though.

The humor was on point this patch, and WoL gets to be quite funny and snarky themselves. G'raha is still super adorable, and I don't mind his fanboying/feelings for the WoL.

Lastly, I have to wonder how extensive the void arc will be. Considering we were told Krile and Thancred are supposed to be getting more MSQ focus, yet because they are yet to be really present, it doesn't seem like the void stuff will be all we do in the coming patches, especially since we've already built our dream team of Estinien, Y'shtola and Varshan. Also, because I doubt Thirteenth is habitable, I wonder whether void-related content will be mostly dungeons and trials, or whether we'll actually travel to Thirteenth for a longer visit. I'm expecting a dungeon+trial combo in 6.3-6.5, at least.
