A lot of non-samurai players are boiling the changes down to removing one superfluous button. That's not what happened. Kaiten is not the samurai version of dragoon's Life Surge. Kaiten has been replaced with an excessive amount of Shinten spamming, a style of play that was very deliberately moved away from years ago. The big hits the class was designed for are now nothing to get excited about at all. The entire rotation feels like filler now.

Since they seem worried about critical hit variance on big hits, I guess we can look forward to changes to reaper's Communio (1000 potency), summoner's Ahk Morn and Revelation (1300), gunbreaker's Double Down (1200), dancer's Technical Finish (1200), monk's Phantom Rush (1150), and white mage's Afflatus Misery (1240). Yes, even whm has bigger hits than sam (yes that was a good change for them). If all of these are problematic due to crits, change how crit works.
I'm in the same boat where this is the first time I'm unhappy enough with a patch to make a forum account. Agreed with pretty much everything you neatly listed there except for gapcloser being used for damage.
