Also made a forum account to post, never did so before. So here I go.

This just ain't it. When I read Kaiten was being removed and potency's adjusted, I expected some small nerfs to things that were effected by Kaiten, such as

Ogi Namikiri reduced from 900 to 800
Midare Setsugekka reduced 660 to 600

So okay, yea those weren't to bad, Kaiten effected them

but these??? They weren't effected by Kaiten?

    Kaeshi: Namikiri 1350 TO 800
    Kaeshi: Setsugekka 990 TO 600

I was expecting something around 1350 to 1200 and 990 to 850 but instead they got gutted. SAM then got other weaponskills and abilities nerfed/buffed by small minute amounts that were or weren't affected by Kaiten, that looks to be in attempt to shift that damage loss from our big hitters to combo generators so now our big hitting abilities....feel like a wet noodle which is what it felt like SAM was all about.

I get future proofing, but this just don't feel like the right way to go about it. If Kaiten was removed for "button bloat" that bloat feels like it got replaced by instead of me using Kaiten in openers I just do more Shinten spam. It just don't feel good to hit Shinten spam. Also the animation for Kaiten was just mmmm bellissimo.

Could have just taken Shoha I and II and baked them together and dropped the potency a small amount to compensate. Also SE are still on the path of making jobs easier to play, but didn't remove the positional requirements on Kasha and Gekko? Could have got rid of True North instead of Kaiten and not touch potency at all and just the changes to Shoha and removing positionals if they want to reduce button bloat.

Lets be honest though, SAM will probably see Shoha I and II baked together as a new trait come 7.0.

    I miss Kaiten so much.

It was so satisfying to cast, such a cool animation and some tactical thoughts when to cast... somehow it now feels like gaps in the rotation - what to do with Kenki now? Shinten Spam?

    So sad

As someone who mostly played SAM ever since 2019 and with 6000+ hours in the game, I'd much rather SAM play the same in 6.08 but do the worst DPS out of all DPS jobs rather than the current SAM even if current SAM was extremely OP.

And as hyperbolic as it sounds, SAM being gutted like this is enough for me to quit because my favourite job now plays like crap. Like the whole point of jobs is to indulge in the job fantasy and sheathing your sword for a decisive strike is part of that samurai mythos.

Chiming in here to confirm the removal of Kaiten makes the class feel awful. I've only gotten to 65 so far but I've spent a fair bit of my time weaving in Kaiten to specific attacks. The lack of this ability is making my skin crawl, it feels so bad. It's just boring to play right now that I don't know if I want to explore the patch...and that sucks.

The job feels empty know, more shinten spam, no more big number satisfaction, clunky transition to iaijutsu, bad synergy with crit comps, just awful.

I don't post on these forums, but adding my voice to the chorus. Yoshi P asked for player feedback after we'd tried the job, and here it is.

This is the most upset I have ever been over a change to any job for as long as I have been playing this game, since ARR beta.

I am assuming nothing but positive intent on the part of the developers, but this just feels like a massive misstep, totally at odds with the desires of the playerbase. It is simply a huge mistake, even if an honest one.

Samurai was my favorite 6.0 dps and now it feels incredibly thin, empty, and broken for all the reasons others have laid out.

I'm a longtime player and I urge the developers to reconsider this change.

You have purples and blues mainly, by no means is that not an impressive feat. It means you are good at what you need to do to clear raids; oranges and pinks are reserved for the elite hardcore speed runners and world / server first groups, which is not for most people.

Back to the main topic since this thread seems to be gaining traction. I echo with what my fellow Samurai have posited in terms of feedback. The class simply does not feel right anymore, whether it's in terms of 'unga bunga' big numbers on screen, synergy with other classes, or the flow of the rotation (as I too experienced aspects such as awkward pauses between Shinten spams). It is no longer fun to play even though overall DPS output is similar to how it was before this change. Please revert these changes or at least redistribute potencies to our cool finishers in lieu of a full revert. For example, a simple fix if we cannot get a full revert is just adding the potency Kaiten would've added to them.

I'm in agreement with a lot of the posts here that these changes really took away a lot of enjoyment from Samurai. I've been playing with the new changes today and Samurai really lost a lot of its uniqueness. Personally, I don't feel just one of these changes is causing it; it's a combination of these changes put together making it just feel much less rewarding to play. To put it into one sentence, the damage got evened out across everything, and Samurai lost the whole "build-up for the big hits" feel--something that (IMO) other DPS classes lacked. This is what made Samurai unique for me, and gave it its identity of being bursty (or at least having light attacks building up into a big attack).

Changes I am really not enjoying:
Potency distributions: I think these changes are what impacted the overall feel the most, as stated above. Samurai lost its identity of being bursty.
Removing Kaiten: I feel like I'm just mashing Iaijutsu for it to cast ASAP, since there is no longer a required weave before it. Additionally, Kenki management is gone, as now there is only one thing to spend Kenki on--Shinten. (Yes, there's Senei, but you use it alongside Ikishoten, so it's very easy to always have enough Kenki for it.)

    Changes I am neutral to:
Tenka Goken / Kaeshi: Goken: I did enjoy having to move in and out while doing AoE attacks--move in for the GCDs, move out for Tenka. While there's less movement required, there's also less spamming tab to try to target the desired target. I also am iffy on the decent potency nerfs, but I am fine with Samurai being more focused on high single-target damage output.

    Changes I am enjoying:
Guaranteed crits: While this is debated due to crit buff synergy, I do appreciate the consistency. Sometimes you just get really unlucky with crits, and sometimes it does make the difference you need.
Third Eye: Even though it's just +1 second increase, it helps dramatically. This was a little awkward finding a place to weave it before incoming damage, but so far it has been more reliable and less awkward.

I am really hoping that Samurai at least gets its burstiness back, if not Kaiten (or similar) as well. I was looking forward to the increased consistency, but I have not been enjoying the new gameplay.

Tossing my +1 in here as well.

SAM has been one of my favorite "have fun" jobs since it was released. The way Kaiten flowed into your Iaijutsu was just peak class fantasy and that is just gone now. It feels like there is a hole in the rotation, something we've been doing for *years*
It feels awkward, and that isn't even to mention how much it feels like a wet noodle now with its big finishers that are supposed to give you that instant rush. Instead now your combo finisher can crit higher than a midare. Who the heck thought any of this was a good idea? I thought they wanted *less* shinten spam, but here we are with only that to do.

    Horrible change.
