Former SAM main. I played it for 10 minutes and disliked it as much as I thought. I will play other jobs now, but would prefer to have old SAM back.

They just removed the ability to crit with Midare and lowered its potency (compared to midare + kaiten). They just changed combat text.
Good work ruining a job because an excel graph of DPS variance in high end raids had a tiny bump in it. Thanks blizzard.
Also made a forum account to post, never did so before. So here I go.
This just ain't it. When I read Kaiten was being removed and potency's adjusted, I expected some small nerfs to things that were effected by Kaiten, such as
Ogi Namikiri reduced from 900 to 800
Midare Setsugekka reduced 660 to 600
So okay, yea those weren't to bad, Kaiten effected them
but these??? They weren't effected by Kaiten?
Kaeshi: Namikiri 1350 TO 800
Kaeshi: Setsugekka 990 TO 600
I was expecting something around 1350 to 1200 and 990 to 850 but instead they got gutted. SAM then got other weaponskills and abilities nerfed/buffed by small minute amounts that were or weren't affected by Kaiten, that looks to be in attempt to shift that damage loss from our big hitters to combo generators so now our big hitting abilities....feel like a wet noodle which is what it felt like SAM was all about.
I get future proofing, but this just don't feel like the right way to go about it. If Kaiten was removed for "button bloat" that bloat feels like it got replaced by instead of me using Kaiten in openers I just do more Shinten spam. It just don't feel good to hit Shinten spam. Also the animation for Kaiten was just mmmm bellissimo.
Could have just taken Shoha I and II and baked them together and dropped the potency a small amount to compensate. Also SE are still on the path of making jobs easier to play, but didn't remove the positional requirements on Kasha and Gekko? Could have got rid of True North instead of Kaiten and not touch potency at all and just the changes to Shoha and removing positionals if they want to reduce button bloat.
Lets be honest though, SAM will probably see Shoha I and II baked together as a new trait come 7.0.
This summaries a lot of my thoughts and concerns as well. I expected some small potency adjustments, not to have them completely gutted. Granted, from what The Balance is saying, the overall damage is actually identical outside of buff synergy. It still feel bad. If they want to keep guaranteed crits and fix the anti-synergy in a different way down the road, I'm fine with it. But don't spread out the potencies so Midare and Kaeshi barely hit above your base combo. It's actually a change on Warrior I've never liked as Fell Cleave is only a measly 60 potency above Storm's Path now. At least Primal Rend and Inner Chaos make up for it. Samurai has Ogi Namikiri now and that's it.
Furthermore, I dislike Yoshida claiming this was to future proof the job. Don't make radical changes until you have something new to offer. I couldn't care less if there's some big rework in the making come 7.0 necessitating Kaiten's removal. Make that change in 7.0 not in 6.1 where we now have this hollowed out job for two years. Although, I don't think Kaiten should be removed whatsoever. At this point, it feels like they did it purely for baby players struggling without any thought on just how much it would impact how Samurai feels.
