    An Idea for Signed Items

    Please allow me to burn with the ship if this has been beat like a horse, however I recently had an idea on being able to craft signed items, the model goes as follows;

    First Step: Harvest all materials for items. After being implemented, each item gathered will now have your name attached to it and will have your name until you choose to use or sell the material.

    Second Step: Craft with only materials you've gathered yourself, therefore each item has your name. Similar to how +1 materials increase quality, using only materials you've gathered permits you to sign your work.

    Last Step: Crafted item now appears with your name attached to it, proving you've made the material from scratch. Please do not give the use the option to sign it or not, this would just mean an extra step for say Copper Ingots while people are just trying to level up, resulting in a greater timesink for them.

    I know this would be difficult, but perhaps it could just be a majority of materials? I know creating an item that is actually useful from material gathered by yourself is very rewarding, this is just my idea of showing that achievement. Thoughts and suggestions? Please note that I wish I knew how to tag the Dev in charge of crafting but this is my first post and don't know how.

    See, i think it would be cooler to be able to name the finished item yourself, instead of defaulting to "Torrey Canyon's Culottes" i could name them whatever I wanted, like, "Super Snarf Attack Culottes" or "Canyon's Culottes of Snarfing". Also, if all your gathered mats are named after you, would that make it harder to sell them?

    It would be cool to pick the name to an extent. I would just fear some of the dumb names people would create. As far as more difficult sell, I don't see it as an issue because once the materials would be place in a bazaar the tag of your name would be erased.

    Going to go off on a different tangent here, but I think it won't be a good thing if people can still interact with retainers come 2.0. As bad as undercutting can get at times, with people trying to sell signed gear (and for the most part, how many people are going to sell others' gear?) people might get threatening tells and such about them undercutting, since you basically know at that point whose retainer they are.

    Probably a silly thing to consider, but I have heard of stranger things happening.

    Just throwing my 2 cents in here to say that I think requiring that all, or even most, of the synth ingredients be self-harvested is a bad idea.

    They are probably going to make it a low level ability that all crafters get, like Hasty Hand.

    It's going to suck giving up one of your five ability slots to signing. lol

    Care to give your reasoning Raldo? I do agree that it would require perhaps too much when dealing with synths that cross multiple disciplines. However, personally I feel it should be a privilage and this method would show more of an accomplishment and understanding of the entire crafting process. Sadly though, I fear Deltara is correct that once implemented, it will be just a given.

    In regards to the undercutting, perhaps it will result in some issues, but do that many incidents occur in an auction house economy? I'm just looking for more input truthfully.

    The problem is that requiring you to have all items gathered by yourself in order to sign... requires you to have multiple gatherers and crafters leveled up in order to perform a function that everyone should be able to do. And some ingredients need crafts/gathering classes in the 40s or higher. It's just a giant punch in the nuts when you can spend time making something yourself and not even be able to put your name on it just because you don't have several other things leveled. Even low level crafters would appreciate getting a kick out of wearing their own "hand-made" items.

    My guess is that it will just be an extra synth step we do after the item is created, similar to dyeing. Maybe they will bring back Rename Cards to sign items =)

    Yes, what Estellios said is what I meant. Signing something is a purely cosmetic feature, and there's no reason to lock it behind unreasonable requirements such as needing the requisite DoL jobs to get all, or even most, of your materials.

    While I would like to see some recognition for having DoL jobs leveled, I don't think that is the way to go about it.

    This is, of course, merely an opinion.
