Request: Expand apartments to be upgradeable in size and amenities

I will not entertain ideas about workshops in relation to apartments. Private dwellings do not have workshops. This thread is about bringing the instanced apartments up to par with the current private dwelling options. Thank you.

I am open to any useful feedback I get on this request.

Current feedback included:

...Those are really pricy. Especially for a small apartment which I have right now, and there is no way I'd pay something like that for bare minimum.

I'd say if it included a top or bottom floor, sure- but at the pitiful size it's at now- hell to the no; especially since you'd be paying 1mil gil to for 100 item slots which fills up really fast if you want even a mildly interesting build.


I'd say the current price now + an additional 300k for each added room/square space which also includes 50-100 extra item slots per room/space.

I'm all for bigger apartments, but at a reasonable price considering they have no yard and no top/bottom floors.

Apartments need a huge overhaul-

But their item limit sizes need to match current house sizes
So a small apartment- 200 items
Medium- 300
Large- 400

A Small could have an extra floor/ room
Medium 2 rooms
Large 3 rooms

Larger apartment/suite would be nice. Honestly I wouldn't mind if these larger options let you take one tenant as well. Due to the housing shortage it'd be nice for those eternally bonded to have similar access to the same place.

Need the following placeables to stick in an apartment.

1. Mail Slot (wall mounted) - to retrieve your mail, should be usable in houses as well
2. Workshop access
3. Hydroponics Growing Stand - 8-plant bed that goes vertical instead of on the floor, so you can grow plants inside just like the Deluxe Garden Bed.

I agree that we should get bigger apartment access. Just keep in mind this has to function on the Instance server with everything else in the game that is instanced. That includes apartment interiors, house interiors, company workshop and private chamber interiors, dungeons, trials, raids, etc.

Currently apartments are a single size and more expensive than FC house chambers, and only slightly larger than a single floor in a small house. No apartments in real life are identical, and some can even be as large as a full house.

My suggestion and request would be to expand upon the apartment system and allow players to expand them in the following ways:


1. Allow players to purchase apartments of different sizes. -- Thanks to juicybug for suggesting the prices. Changing to 300k for each decor-able room/floor. Price doubles with size increase.

[*]Small 600,000 gil - current apartment size (default) and add a second customizable room that is about half the size of the main apartment area 100 decoration items (plus 50 for additional room)
[*]Medium 900,000 gil - Identical to Small house 200 decoration items (plus 50 for additional room)
[*]Large 2,400,000 gil - Identical to Medium house 300 decoration items (plus 100 for additional room)
[*]Penthouse 4,800,000 gil - Identical to Large house 400 decoration items (plus 100 for additional room)

2. Allow players to purchase apartments of various styles/designs with split floor plans
3. Allow players to have tenants in medium apartments and above.

Customizable room options:
(Customizable room because apartments have no exterior)

• Greenhouse - small room with opaque walls/ceiling for a deluxe garden patch and a few decorations (8 gardening plots)
• Atrium - A tall room with a open/glass ceiling designed to showcase wall decorations. Reasonable floor space for a small table and some chairs.
• Balcony - an "outside" room that can be decorated like a balcony. Room has a weather system that mimics the weather in the current region of the apartment.
• Solarium - an open room with glass walls and ceiling designed to let in as much sunlight as possible
• Generic room - Just an empty room for general decorations.

Also an optional mail slot item that can only be used in apartments should be added or tied to the apartment door for accessing mail without exiting the apartment to make up for a lack of mailbox. -- Thanks to Valfreyja for suggesting this.

Optionally, have apartment sizes be the same as houses but upgrading gets you extra rooms and maybe an extra floor with a penthouse.

Problems this solves:
1. There is a definite housing shortage and the segregation of wards into FC-only and Personal wards is an unwelcome change and will only make personal housing plots even more scarce with a huge increase in demand. Many players are looking at their current apartments and seeing their dreams of a more friendly housing space be shattered by this announcement, myself included.
2. Players who own even a small house are able to allow tenants to "live" with them and manage their decorations. Apartment owners are unable to do this for some reason. With the inclusion of apartment sizes, this should also be possible with apartments.
3. Makes apartments more attractive and affordable for players who wish to have the housing experience but are unable to due to the housing shortage and exclusion of personal houses from 75% of the plots in the game. Currently wards 1-18 are FC-only at the time of writing this post (it's patch day)
4. Eternally bonded players cannot share a living space if one or both of them only own apartments. With the lack of personal houses and many players not able to form FCs and get them upgrade enough to purchase FC housing, upgraded apartments would be more attractive to those individuals. -- Thanks to Basteala for mentioning this.

I am open to feedback on this and will update the post if possible to reflect any useful feedback.

Not gonna comment on the logistics of this, or how it'd work with FFXIV's code, but I'd love it if the devs put a little attention into something like this.

Another thing to add: Locations can be outside the housing areas. Put in instanced housing apartment complexes in Ala Mhigo. Gelmorra. Sea of Clouds. The Moon, even. When you don't have to worry about putting in an entire neighborhood the sky's the limit.

Upgrading apartments would make them more attractive and thus increase the demand. Some people would enjoy a house. Others would be quite happy with their apartments if they could just have some variety.

Funny, I'm of the opposite thought. I purposely picked an apartment over FC chambers because I specifically did not want my room tied to the FC. If I leave or get kicked from the FC, that's it! Whereas the apartment will always be there.

I'd love to be able to customize my apartment's floor plan, but I'll be honest, if they would give us the current Small, Medium, and Large floorplans attached to the apartment entrance and let us buy those or upgrade our current apartments using current house prices, I'd be very happy with that. Being able to upgrade the current single space condo/apartment into a Medium or Large house interior would actually give me a reason to put effort into interacting with the economy in a meaningful way.

Coming from a player who's been with the same FC since the start and won't ever leave, I'm fine with FC rooms and apartments having different prices since such a high percentage of players don't stick to the same FC forever. I'm happy paying 500K for an apartment that I know will be mine forever, regardless of my FC affiliation even if it has the same floorplan as the FC room that's 300K to compensate for the lack of risk.

I really do love the ward system we have now as it facilitates the RP/social activities I participate in, but damn, do we need honest-to-Hydaelyn upgradable condos!

Exactly my thoughts, too. And it's why I own an apartment. I'd love a full house, but now the chances of me actually getting one? very, very slim. At least with FCFS, I had a chance. Now those chances have been reduced by 75% or more.

Nothing says we can't keep the ward system. But it'd be nice to have alternatives to that for people who're more reclusive/solo. So a condo on the Moon or an underground living space in Gelmorra that's accessible via a stand alone lobby in the vicinity would work just fine.

They're not silly at all. They're suggestions to be discussed. Timers aren't even supposed to be a thing on houses, that was added much later in response to the demand for housing. Rethinking apartments would help alleviate that entirely.

I'd happily drop the entire Ward system if upgradeable apartments were a thing (and if Apartments could be treated like houses in terms of Estate-sharing). The game needs a gil sink, and I believe upgradeable apartments are a good way to do that.

In addition, it'd also increase the demand for them, as my own server has a lot of free apartments due to the lack of demand.
