I think Healers as well as the rest of the Jobs in PvP are currently in a great spot. Personally, i'd love some smaller changes like SCH, WHM and Sadge having something else instead of Glare that adds more flavour, but overall, i think it is a great first step for PvP.

It would also be great if Squeenix would add more duelling zones in the future as well, since Wolves Den seems to have turned into quite the popular spot with alot of People.

Which is why I generally dislike and refuse to PVP in MMOs. PVP in most MMOs I've played rapidly devolves into stunlocking and rapidly burning targets down, getting ganged up on, players not assisting the healers, etc. Open world PVP MMOs are even worse, with high level players zooming in behind and one shotting you. If I'm healing in PVP, I'm either getting nuked by other players while my party does nothing to cover me, or I can hold my own and I'm "too strong" and the DPS biiiiiitchbitchbitch until nerfs roll in and they can casually slaughter me again. It's a cycle I have no interest in, and pulled away from MMO PVP years before FFXIV came out.

More than ever healers are dps in pvp, and pretty good ones at that, with solid support. Great burst dmg in conjunction with strong utility especially with LB on.

Oh man, i literally just logged out and i was just thinking about this. I can't speak for the other three healers but after going in with sage, i knew that if a really good player uses these jobs, the team they're on could be unkillable. Despite the lack of direct heals, sage essentially makes people tanky every 30s and it's hilarious when the team actually takes advantage of it. There's even the damage buff to whoever is hit with toxikon and if you use mesotes at the right moment, your team can wipe the enemy team in one go or save your dying team. It's so damn fun to use.

That's not even to mention how they actually all look and feel different to each other. I had a whm in my time at some point and while i play aggressively with sage (i tried passive, the kit just doesn't feel as useful when playing passively tbh), they tend to stand back and assist from there. It really fills in that support healer role in a team.

I dont really think healers having such a limited healing resource is a problem. The game is way too fast paced to target allies & heal them and the self heal that costs a quater of the MP is much better than anything the healer can do in the heat of the moment. The only time i ever used Cure 2 to heal is when the enemy team was down and we were recovering from killing them.

Also im pretty sure the game is balanced so it doesnt matter what role or party comp you play. So yes we're green DPS here. No trinity.

Not a fan of the PvP changes for healers. It's basically taken our one identity (the ability to heal our party) and replaced it with DPS skills. If I wanted to play a DPS there are a dozen other classes which are not only better suited to dealing damage, but look cooler doing it. Still, that being said I was never a huge fan of PvP even before the changes, so not much has changed. My only lament is I'm forced to play through it in order to unlock the new plates and emotes.

on the contrary my friend, i would argue PvP has more healer class identity than PvE ever did (post Stormblood) . true healers in PVP have less spells, and wont be able to spam their heal ability as much, but that just it. Healers (i personally feel) are not just the sum of their cure2 spam. Each healer is supposed to have their own playstyles, benefits and ways of engaging with the enemy and aiding allies, and i feel like PVP gives the most distinguishing styles than ive seen from this dev team in a while. Although i do wish we had a few more charges of cure in pvp

Not to mention the way the devs designed this game is to prioritize DPS -- cant fault the healers for feeding into the dps hunger when the game rewards them for doing it, and in some cases outright punishes them for good healing.

Outside of your 1 standard heal on a 15s charge healers are largely pointless.

Yes WHM limit break is completely busted but they're not healers outside of Cure2 and the LB. They're DPS.

I saw a match where the WHM was using the Cure 2 Exploit. They were actually HEALING and contributing to the group dynamic instead of watching people die.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

WHM has a lot more going for it than you think. Aquaveil can heal a status effect while shielding (and doubles the potency of the shield if it does clear a status effect, not to mention you can target an ally with this), the Miracle of Nature polymorph can't be cleansed, it can stop limit breaks, and can start a chain of crowd control effects, and they can AOE heal with a free Cure III for every Seraph Strike (which deals damage but also grants a defense buff for all allies). WHM is actually the most healer-y of the healers in PVP, and are, currently, easily the pillar of any team if they know what they're doing.

Otherwise, you're probably better off not thinking of PVP in terms of roles.

A healer is not all powerful, as the game exists to facilitate good teamplay and not good babysitter gameplay. They're not completely worthless either, because of their unique range and effective ability that tilts the battle to their team's favor. Imo, the current PvP healers are designed well for this purpose after considering what every other job has in their toolkit.

If your party members can't figure out how to use Recuperation and not stand in the line of the opponent's AoE, you can't blame the healer's toolkit for that. Not even PvE healers can save you from blatantly staying in the line of fire for so long.
It’s a matter of intentionality. In PvP there’s more overlapping AoEs meant to catch the dumb dumb. In PvE they either two shot you or they don’t matter. Cure spam doesn’t fix stupid, but appropriate tuning will get them every time.
