New Job Idea: Void Mage v.2

Taking another whack at a dot caster job. Yes we did just get Reaper but tbh I think that helps set up another void-themed job very well. We keep getting hints about going to the void and as we gain more knowledge and learn new techniques about opening portals to the void it makes sense to me that it could pave the way for a new void-themed job (so long as it's not melee). Plus I just think it's cool.

Full ability list and more: FFXIV Void Mage v.2

    Summary
    Resources:
    Black Auracite
    • Max: 7
    • Generated primarily from dot ticks and a 10s recast spell with 3 charges.
    • Spent on summoning voidsent which cost 2 or 3 each.

    Corruption
    • Max: 100
    • Generated primarily when summoned voidsent disappear and from standing near Planar Fissures.
    • Spent on One with the Void which has you enter Void Form to buff your voidsent and portals, indirectly speed up your dot ticks, and allow the casting of their ultimate ability: Doomsday.
    • Can be spent on an aoe burst spell to prevent over-capping.
    • Corruption can also be used to heal yourself.

    Voidsent and Planar Fissures
    • These are displayed as a resource to make use of other abilities easier.
    • Voidsent are displayed in a line with a timer for each, their order based on remaining duration.
    • Voidsent with under 10s remaining change color.
    • Upgraded voidsent have a glowing border
    • There is one icon for Planar Fissures with a timer for the oldest one.
    • The Planar Fissure icon lights up when you're close to it and changes color when gaining Corruption from it.
    • When close to or gaining Corruption from a Fissure the timer shows the one that's affecting you the most.

    Mechanics
    DoTs
    • Two primary dots, both instant. One gcd, one gcd. 30s base duration, 60s max (similar to Reaper's debuff).
    • The filler spell advances these dots by 1 tick (3s) or by 3 ticks (9s) while in Void Form.
    • One dot has a chance to grant Auracite, the other has a chance to grant a charge of an ability that upgrades your next voidsent.

    Voidsent
    • There are 3 summon abilities for single target, aoe, and damage over time.
    • Each summon costs 2 Auracite and can be upgraded to cost 3 Auracite.
    • All summons last 21s and are instant ogcd abilities.
    • These summons are glorified dots. They can be moved with a spell to focus targets.
    • Normal summons grant 20 Corruption on death, upgraded summons grant 30.
    • Summons can be sacrificed either all at once for aoe damage or one at a time for a shield. Summons sacrificed for damage with half their duration remaining refund 1 Auracite each.

    Planar Fissures
    • You can place Fissures on the ground and interact with them using other abilities.
    • Fissures deal a small amount of damage over time to the nearest target and grant a small amount of Corruption when near them or in their line of fire.
    • You can have multiple Fissures up at once but the Corruption gain from them does not stack.
    • There's a charge ability that requires a target, you can charge to either an enemy or one of your Fissures.
    • There's a defensive cd that requires being near a Fissure to avoid damage.
    • There's a spell to upgrade a Fissure once every 45s for a burst of damage and Corruption gain.

    One with the Void
    • One with the Void is a 10s recast, instant ability to enter Void Form. Go in and out as you please, it's very flexible.
    • It buffs the damage of your voidsent and increases Corruption gain from Planar Fissures.
    • It costs an increasing amount of Corruption over time. 5/s for the first 5s, 11/s for the next 5s, then 18/s for 5s and so on.
    • Using the ability Harbinger starts a 15s countdown to cast Doomsday. You must stay in Void Form the entire time which costs 170 Corruption.
    • Since Corruption maxes out at 100 you will need to make sure you have active voidsent and Fissures before entering Void Form, which is a good idea anyway because they'll get buffed.
    • Voidsent can be sacrificed for a burst of Corruption if needed but it's not ideal.

    Gameplay
There are a number of things to manage with this job of varying importance. The most important things to watch are your two dots (which have the same duration and can both be cast within 1 gcd), Black Auracite, Corruption, and recast timers. Tracking voidsent and Planar Fissures is situational.

There is no strict rotation for this job, it's more about making sure you're not wasting resources and keeping dots rolling. There's a good amount of leeway for everything to make up for there being a lot to track, the job is quite flexible. Multiple abilities with charges (Dark Flare, Transfigure, Planar Fissure) means you have a larger window to use them.

The core loop of the job is maintaining your dots, spending Black Auracite on Oath spells to summon voidsent and those voidsent generating Corruption when they disappear which you build up for your burst phase, pretty simple when you break it down.

Mobility is limited by Planar Fissures, they're up more than half the time and require you to either be near them or in their line of fire to gain Corruption. It's a small amount of Corruption so no big loss if you have to step away for a moment but there's a lot of room for optimization in their placement and timing.

The primary goal of this job is to set up Doomsday every minute which requires building up Corruption, spending Dark Flare charges, increasing your dot durations, making sure you have some voidsent about to expire, and setting up a Planar Fissure before using One with the Void. Most of this you should be doing anyway but there's some room for optimization by making sure you spend more gcds on Degenerate while in Void Form and have enough Corruption without having to resort to Hecatomb. During One with the Void gameplay will speed up a bit as you try to maintain enough Corruption for Doomsday. There will be less mobility while in Void Form so positioning is also important.
Some of the Void Mage's spells are proximity aoes that require being within 10y of the target, Chaos Drive can allow you to quickly rush in or out to a Planar Fissure. These spells include a couple of your longer recast times (Black Sky, Doomsday) and an aoe (Evil Mist).

Channeled spells are a limited feature of the job, there are only a few to worry about including an aoe (Evil Mist) and a couple long recast spells (Black Sky, Open the Way). In order to ensure these go off without a hitch the job has Veil which can be used while channeling to avoid damage so long as you're near a Planar Fissure. Channels can be canceled early for a lesser effect but doing so will put the spell on cooldown so they need to be used carefully.

In dungeons the Void Mage can easily dot up enemies while running after which it has Dark Flare Star to generate Auracite, an aoe voidsent to spend the Auracite, Abyssal Wave to spend Corruption, and Paroxysm with or without Evil Mist for filler. There are some options with aoe depending on how much time you have and whether or not you can get close to the enemies as well as some longer recast spells like Open the Way. Multi-dotting does mean more Auracite generation as well as more Transfigure charges to upgrade summons which means more Corruption, it should be pretty fun and rewarding.

Most of this job's utility is selfish. Dark Flare and its aoe counterpart both cost HP and since positioning is somewhat limited by Planar Fissures and channeled spells. Void Mages can heal and ressurect themselves but not others. Their only raid utility is an aoe blind effect with a 90s recast.

I enjoyed this. There's probably some tweaking that would need to be done once you flesh out a rotation, but the concepts and interaction are fun. A lot of these ideas could be modified for a green mage theme as well.
