I'm not necessarily saying they should, but the issue is a matter a small number of people controlling a lot of property. Statistically it's more likely to please more people than it pisses off.

I was crushed when i saw that this morning i have been wanting a house for so long in game, had tried for so long then finally decided to wait for ishgard because it was very demoralizing to click a placard for hrs upon hours til my wrist would be killing me to have the house sell when i dared to go to the bathroom. Now seeing how few houses are available for private owners i know im basically gonna have zero chance to get one. But hell i guess players that make dummy fcs to be buying houses will have an easier time.
Oh please let island sanctuary be a type of instanced housing.
Unfortunately the problem with FC Housing is that there's stuff locked behind it - the airships and submarine expeditions.
And both FC and personal housing lock off Gardening.
A four person FC doesn't need that stuff.
Larger ones, sure, but the personal FCs people have? Hell no.
Larger FCs don't even really NEEd need it, because the Expeditions and Voyages?
Only really give out exclusive Minions and some housing crafting materials. And on the more common of items, it's all crafting materials you can either craft or gather just by having those Jobs on hand.
It's not like other MMOs where the FC-exclusive content has end-game crafting gear that you NEED to progress in end-game content.
Edit: Same with Free Company Crafting for that matter. It's only either Airship and Submarine Components, or Housing Items.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but...
I think personal housing in the current format was a mistake ._.
It will never quit being the thorn in this games' side.
Yeah the excuse that this "serves" more players to focus on FC housing is a bunch of collectivist, "greater good" nonsense.
