This is the guide I used to get goldsmith to 30. The () are the actual rank. You can try to synth any receipe 10 ranks above you. If you are using goldsmith main hand make sure to wear dexterity jewelry and load in dexterity traits.
Goldsmith (4) - Copper Nugget - yellow copper oreX4, fire shard X10
Goldsmith (4) - Brass Nugget - copper ore X3, zinc ore X1, fire shard X14
Goldsmith (5) - Copper Fish Hook - copper nugget X1, water shard X3, fire shard X3
Goldsmith (12) - Copper Earring - copper nugget X2, wind shard X3, fire shard X3
Goldsmith (14) - Copper Ring - copper nugget X2, fire shard X3, wind shard X3
Goldsmith (18) - Brimstone - pyrite X4, fire shard X1
Goldsmith (22) - Brass Earring - brass nugget X2, wind shard X3, fire shard X3
Goldsmith (28) - Spoon Lure - brass nugget X1, brass wire X1, bronze gorgehook X1, fire shard X4, wind shard X3
Goldsmith (32) - Silver Earring - silver nugget X2, fire shard x6, wind shard X6
Goldsmith (33) - Silver Needle - silver nugget X1, fire shard X6, wind shard X6
Goldsmith (38) - Darksilver Ring - brimstone X1, silver nugget X2, fire shard X8, wind shard X6
I made copper nuggets and brass nuggets 1 - 6. I made copper fish hooks 6 - 8. Copper Earring 8 - 11. Copper Ring 11 - 16. Brimstone 16 - 17. Brass Earring 17 - 21. Brass Ring 21 - 25. Spoon Lure 25 - 28. Silver Needle 28 - 30+. This is a fairly cheap way to get to 30 on gold.

Goldsmithing is only 34 for me so I can't add too much to that list but I find that if you're doing mining as well that the gemmed rings (silver nugget X2, GemX1(danburite, malachite, etc.)) work well for skill ups. Still getting around 500 sp per synth at my current rank.
I did:
white coral arrowhead(40) at 34ish?
electrum rings(44) at around 38
Currently levelling on blue coral arrowheads(45)/nephrite breastpins(46).
I want to move on to red coral arrowheads(48) at r42 but blue should still be semi decent.
I'm levelling fishing too so coral isn't too hard to come by. but the 11 wind shards can add up painfully. Blue and Red coral appear to only be found in schools of fish.
Jade is resonably common too in mining (gridania)
If you have lots of silver ingots and have leather leveled high enough to make ochre(?) leather straps, silver chakrams are an option around r34 or r35. (I don't really recommend this one because it needs ingots and leather). <- I did this for one level and nearly /wristed LOL

It's red straps not ochre. I had a massive supply of ingots and nothing better to use them on when I turned 35, got a couple ranks out of chakrams. I still make em when I get silver ingots for leve rewards.
Blue and Red Coral are both pricey on my server, most goldsmiths use the silver francisca recipe from 44-50.
Its worthless to load up DEX unless your trying to HQ....even then it doesnt really effect it much. This is the guide I used to get goldsmith to 30. The () are the actual rank. If you got a friend whos an alchemist, have him rank up on clear and green lenses, then you can go 45-50 pretty easy on silver magnifiers. It's red straps not ochre. Untrue. I've failed many synths that I was previously having much success with, and was bewildered until I discovered I forgot to equip my flourite rings. Once equipped, I was having success again.
Alternatively, pump your intelligence and use the grinding wheel.
My Dex is non-existent and my Int is high as a mage. Whenever I pull out my hammer, I inevitably fail where my grinding wheel has no problems.
Except SE has explicitly stated that those stats really only affect HQ.
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...54e0866aa89b46Attributes themselves have little influence over the progression of an actual act of synthesis. The higher the stats on the tool being used to craft, however, the easier it will be for the Quality value of the synthesized item to increase. Though results vary from recipe to recipe, a higher Quality value means that a synthesis attempt is more likely to produce either a high-quality item,* or a high-quantity yield.
Also, as the primary and secondary tool stats are different for each Disciple of the Hand class (see list below), it is important to focus on those associated with the class that you most wish to develop.**
