You know, after years of looking at this forum...
If the design team changes anything in a rotation that makes it less convoluted, people get angry even if it makes sense. This is especially true for anything involving tank mitigation and damage. And then you got WHM over in the corner that finally got the radius on cure III buffed plus a machinist style trigger for the healing totem and no one is bothered in the slightest.
Doing PVP combos would have to be a systemic change across all jobs. It could work on Sam but on jobs like monk and ninja it would be a problem. Also what if you accidentally start the shifu combo when you need the jinpu combo seal? Would you be locked into the combo and have to start the other one from hakaze. Not sure how this would be implemented in a way that isn’t awkward. There’s also a reason why red mage’s melee combo wasn’t consolidated like GNB’s cartridge combo: the mana costs being different on each button make it so that one combo button wouldn’t work at lower levels.
That is why I am hoping for the Aion combo system. You can make multiple combos depending on which set of 3 button combos you want to execute. It is such an easy thing to allow, but doubt they will do it because they would lose control over dumbing down the game until we are left with one button on every class. You could literally make it so you 3 combos or 3 buttons that went into each Sam seal and that would reduce the 6 buttons into 3 buttons. When I use my xbox controller on pc it would make having less cross hotbars needing to be swapped to.Doing PVP combos would have to be a systemic change across all jobs. The devs could also set it up similarly where you can't make random combos that make zero sense just to troll. It was only for their 1 2 3 and varients of it or the heals that combo'd into each other. You couldn't just make random combos that were a miss match of any skill just the ones that already combo'd into each other consolidating them into one button instead of them lighting up on your hotbar and all being there as they are in ff. Though we kind of have this option with macros already so the code is kind of already there. It would just need to be polished and given its own menu with empty squares and you just put the skills in your actions menu in an order and than put the first part onto your hotbar.

On the matter of of 1 button combos, how about just giving the players the option for it?
Take the GNB's gnashing fang for example, have the option to choose between having 3 separate buttons for each GCD, or have it be 1 button like it is now.
This does not change anything in terms of balancing numbers, it is an ease of use improvements for some, and still allows those with more spaces and quick fingers to play as they were used to.
personally i'm fine with autocombo buttons if they're an optional menu toggle, so folks who wanna do that can, and folks who dont arent forced to, yeahOn the matter of of 1 button combos, how about just giving the players the option for it?

they're already flirting with it via skills that auto-swap to their procs on the same button (which is a great way to save on button space while still adding new skills/depth)

I agree with this. I still have Verholy/Verflare unique buttons on my bar on my Red Mage, despite they changing it. Let people have the option and it will be alright. Will be good for who want one button combo, and who wants to 123.
But for the topic, I would like WildFire (MCH) to be like Inner Release, make it 6 GCD under 12 seconds. Still requires you to do Hypercharge, but is more lenient with higher ping. And make ME the automaton queen, not a dot button I press and forget. Like Reaper's enshroud (see Scouter from Lost Ark). Just to have more flavour.
And if MCH balancing is still a bit of issue, I wouldn't mind it having buffs again (and making all P.Ranged with buffs here and there)
Of course some will be easier to implement than others. That will be their problem to solve.Doing PVP combos would have to be a systemic change across all jobs. I'm just using the easiest ones and most obvious ones for example xD
Starting a wrong combo, I would just treat like if I pressed shifu before hitting hakaze because I messed up. I start over.
Awkward? As awkward as messing up a rotation I guess. As it should be, you did make a mistake after all.
Carbuncle should be removed entirely with how now your party buff gonna be from you and not carby.
I want SMN dots back and a bit more abilities in terms of personal skills, not just ruin. take away the smn heal too- no reason for it other than to make funny jokes with during raids.
I agree with this so much, thank you for sharing it.
Too many abilities are being watered down, misconstrued, or removed altogether. The core of each job and lore behind the abilities continue to be diminished for the sake of “button bloat” when there are other more practical/reasonable methods of addressing that issue. But that’s the thing: many like having buttons to press. They enjoy having options, variations, and room for a personalized experience.
