In 6.1 we're getting adventurer plates and I know people who already are talking about how much time they're going to spend getting theirs perfect. This isn't just a game focused on battle content. They put out a wide variety of things and we pick and choose what we like. But we're always going to come to a point where we run out of our first choice and either do a different type of content or amuse ourselves elsewise in the game or just take off that night and do something else.
The content that drew me to this game is battle content. If it has nothing to do with fighting, it is unlikely to interest me or get me to chase after a reward unless it has something extremely sought after at the end of it. This did not hold for Ishgard Restoration for the most part. This also does not hold for Gold Saucer. Gold Saucer activities are jumping puzzles and minigames, not fights.

You cannot sell me a sub on minigames alone. Thank goodness I have an army of alts and a backlog of gear to collect, otherwise there would be no justification to stay subbed beyond the first month of these earlier patches that lack relic/exploratory content.

Adventurer Plates I fully support as they are a good avenue of player expression and do not have the massive accessibility issues that Housing does, and are likely to appear at the start of instances moving forward like they will start doing in PVP in 6.1. They are not as pointless as stickers, nor are they as limited as most fashion accessories, who I remember got over 30 minutes dedicated to them in a Shadowbringers live letter once.

I am thankful that patch 6.1 will be giving me at least something long term to do in the form of the new PVP gear at the end of that grind, but I see no reason as to why things like a Deep Dungeon or the first step of a relic *must* be delayed for so long after initial launch.

Seriously? Ads like these do practically nothing to draw people in, except the Animal Crossing twitter crowd maybe. What drew me in was the cool looking Black Mage and Gaius CGI art back in ARR. I promise you that there are more people here for battle content than there are for housing that has historically always been a hassle to get into and crafting.

Ok I can understand wanting things to be rearranged in their release order, but now I'm really curious. Do you just want to grind?

I tend to agree on Deep Dungeon or relics though if the relic step is too easy then people will just complain about how fast it is. I think because they're trying this new format of releasing side quests later that that got pulled in. This whole format with ending a story at 6.0 is something new. I'm willing to give them this time to experiment. Maybe doing this lets them balance out their personnel resources more evenly so people can get vacations and days off. And if we go through these patches up to 7.0 and it doesn't quite work, we can offer feedback on where this or that patch felt more bare and suggest maybe releasing X content earlier or later.

To Kaurhz, I think maybe it's the phrase itself. "Go play other games" kind of implies they aren't welcome in this one. Everyone is welcome in this one. I think the spirit of the idea is to enjoy your time in the game. Don't force yourself to log in just because you think you have to. And if you aren't feeling it that night, don't. That's the path to burn out. Do something else that is fun. XIV is designed so that it will be there when you get back.

I have nearly every bit of loot in the gold saucer and I still go back there just cause it's fun and that's what my friends and I like to do. Last night I spent 2 hours parkouring through a housing district. What exactly do you want the game to give you?
More long lasting content spread out would be nice. Not content you do once a week for 30 mins for a piece of gear. It’s not really about perspective, it’s just about objective, but fun itself is subjective. You might find parkouring in a housing district fun, i find it a bore. I enjoy engagement.

Ok but what if there were a piece of gear tied to that parkouring? Also the once a week thing, why do you feel like you need to do it?

The parkour in housing is engagement for some. Just as fun is subjective, so is engagement.

This is why people should embrace playing multiple games. When you get bored with one, there's another waiting for you. Anything can get boring when you do it repetitively without a break.

I think that's a result of how SE syncs item level in dungeons. They really should scale it back so it's closer to what players would have when the content was originally released (though not all the way to min ilvl).

I have seen the "just play other games" "argument" spring up all the time now... and it only got pushed hard more recently (yeah, the 'just unsub' has been around ever since Yoshi made that remark ages back but not quite at this level). But I've never actually seen anyone outright state that FFXIV is their only game. Just strange and frankly, dismissive and bizarre. Are we only supposed to play the game 30 minutes a month? Is the "correct" way to play something along the lines of bouncing around the Limsa plaza flirting with 2B maid miqote or the Gold Saucer or depressing deserted housing districts?

For some people yes. There's a lot more in the game than just fighting. I understand that there is a crowed of people who only want to have battle content. It's unfortunate that the game doesn't give you what you want, but I have to ask. Do you expect one game to give you that? The only reason I brought up gold saucer and other things is because it really seems like people think there is no point in doing anything unless it facilitates end game big number fluff. I'm really not trying to sound rude, but it seems like people take "try playing other games" as an attack.

FFXIV isn't really built for 'parkour'. Even the jumping puzzles that do exist are notorious for awkward hitboxes when trying to land at a specific angle. To say nothing of the existence of actual games built around parkour such as Dying Light providing a far superior experience for those who want to indulge in such activities in the first place.

Furthermore, it was first proposed in ARR - almost a decade ago - by Yoshi-P for players to just go and play other games. A statement echoed by many of his devout fans. Yet this far into the game's lifespan? I daresay we're at a point where the game should have more meat on the bone when it comes to each new content patch.

The fact of the matter is that a lot of us manage our free time rather well. We do play other games, we have other hobbies and we go to work. I don't think I've ever encountered a game's community with such a large group of players with an apparent allergy to getting more bang for one's buck.
