New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

Probably, I think this is the first time they've ever gone back and added a section that wasn't there originally to character creation?

Still feels kind of important for players to know if they'd get 1 or 2 hairstyles but with ears every patch vs. 6 with no ears, or months with nothing and then 1 or 2 hairstyles with ears.

But that's for Hrothgar players to decide what they'd prefer I guess.

I'd definitely be more happy with less options that "work" with Hrothgar than with a lot of options that diminish the bestial visual style. We didn't get anything new for three years, getting two that actually are a good choice instead of six of which at least three look horrible is still an improvement. Of course I don't speak for all Hrothgar players. It might not be a lot, and in terms of becoming "equal" to other species by being able to use all hairstyles that can be found in the game (or the mog station), it would definitely take a lot more time. But it also depends on the choice of hairstyles whether quality over quantity would work. The 2B or Karen hairstyle with ears would still be not a good design choice for Hrothgar, it doesn't fit their nature that well. Windcaller, Rainmaker and similar "rough" looking hairstyles on the other hand... Those would make many players happy and maybe more patient when it comes to waiting for more.

Talking about good choices, I'd like to throw in the link of the hairstyle suggestion thread again, as a reference. Would be a shame if it would be lost, there are many good suggestions.

Edit, btw, not related to your post, but more a general thought: I know, some people say "it's just hair/ears", but please keep in mind that ears are also a way of customization with earrings, ear clips and the like. If you can't really customize your character by choosing from the usual available head gear, the ears become more important as a visual equipment slot.

Did they honestly believe that removing a racial feature from a race to receive bad hairstyles was really going to tie people over? They've been promising updates for 3 years and they didn't bother to even begin down this route? Instead they just opted to chop off our ears and (try to) call it a day?

Majorly disappointed. Granted, we know that the dev time was used to help bring our male bun boys into existence because yoshi has spoken about how much man power is required to bring in an entirely new "race", but I mean....blegh. It seems it would be at the ..... cost of F. Hrothgar taking a while (?). The wording is a bit weird there with the "will be a lot slower and limited in numbers". But if that last bit is true about F. Hrothgar, literally no one would have wanted them implemented with no ears if they decided to keep M. Hrothgar that way. People want F. Hrothgar done right and the best way to make sure they're done right is to make sure M. Hrothgar are done right first so the team doesn't have to think to hard on how to fix both of them simultaneously :/

They just need to work the path of designing unique hairstyles for Hroth & Viera *if* adding existing hairstyles removes(hides?) their ears then just don't add them until there is a solution & focus on making unique hairs that will fit them AND look good.
It may take more time to create unique hairs but the end result will be very much worth the wait. Those 2-3 years should have been not adding existing hairs but adding unique hairs to Viera & Hroth.
(I keep pressing for unique Hrothgar AND Viera hairstyles bc the current Viera hairs that have been added also don't look great. It's not as laughable as M. Hroth but there are hairs they could add inspired from Viera artwork & FFXII to XIV Viera. Adding existing hairs to Viera imo diminishes their semi-beastial uniqueness)

In all honesty, I am glad they said something about it. A bit too late for some (with like 10 days), and that silence doesn't look good on them, at least from my point of view.
I am glad they will be working on it, but who knows how long it will be? I for one don't and can't be expected to wait 3 more years for that. But this might actually be taken as a wake-up call to the SE company to allocate more people and funding to the FFXIV team since this game brings them a lot of money. People will not accept sub-par updates that look like they are half-assed. And I am glad about that.
My trust in them is still broken and will only start mending once I see that they keep true to their word.
Don't plan to use those hairstyles (though them addressing and fixing the Fantasia issue was definitely a good thing), will stick with the one I have for the time being.

I can test it this week I have a male Hroth alt on Balmung. I've just been way too busy getting my various alts through story and getting them some semblance of acceptable raid/crafted/tome gear. I suspect he won't really get much love until he becomes a she.

I'm hoping the female models will be something people will want to play and not just Roe's with fur. We'll see there are so many good possibilities, I just with they'd show us some concept art. They seem to prefer keeping this under wraps until they have a release video to show.

I will say this: I'm glad it got addressed, still sucks that it will take time but I hope they do it nicely.

I don't mind going slower, but I hope that when it is fixed, it comes faster. It's been three years of this, and have to wait more. So I hope they do it in a way that will be easy to implement.

And if they want to ensure ears to appear again when using existing hairstyles they might have to rethink and restructure the specification, and the price you'll have is that the implementation of different Hrothgar will be a lot slower and limited in numbers, instead of adding a high amount of them patch by patch."
