New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

There are definitely a lot of different reasons why quality has gone down, but no doubt with the resources freed without the inclusion of these races, they'd have more to devote to higher quality assets, and probably more items in general (hairs, outfits, etc.). I mean there is no guarantee that that would happen. As Yoshida said at the the time, it was their "last chance", so I think they took liberties in their design, with their intentionally limited implementation.

Probably in the short term the inclusion of these races was beneficial, no doubt in fantasia sales and advertisement, especially with male viera, but long term we now have two races with seemingly botched implementation, and SE who doesn't seem to want to expand the options for these races, at least any type of meaningful options. Such as the supposedly promised racially unique hairs, or more headgear options. Implementation that would now supposedly require a lot of work to bypass for updates. Even the shared hairs - for BOTH viera and hrothgar - look to continuously be of lesser quality.

When people were requesting viera, I highly doubt they had their limited nature in mind when they made that request.

Meanwhile not even an entire flick of your thumb up viera are getting MORE new options! They already had 4x the amount hrothgar had in character creation but they're gods golden children so its totally fair I guess.

Quick, don't let the FFXIV forums know that it legit takes modders about a minute to open up their modding tool, toggle a Boolean value, and then ship it out.
And that it's so easy that they did it despite having virtually zero 3D modelling or programming experience.
I'm not joking, it's not a model issue, the ears were hidden behind an on\off switch that modders could quite easily bypass that fast.
But don't let the forums know that, shhh.

I wouldn't say they're the golden child... We all know the golden child is a Black Mage Lalafell. Viera do have issues of their own, but it is rather telling that they get a lot more attention than the one that needs the most attention.
I repeat the same spiel about Agile Development here. I understand that Viera are likely easier to work on than Hrothgar, hence why they consistently get more options out than we do. But then again, lack of care and attention overall is just Square going for what's popular and easy rather than realizing what's hard and make the process easier on themselves.

idk, I tend to work on the harder stuff first because the easy peasy stuff is quicker, but other people may disagree.

Well, they went from "really bad" to "meh", but it's an improvement regardless. The Snow hairstyle is actually useable for me now, so I guess I'll take that win. Still not impressed, however. They've got a lot of trust to rebuild after the mess that was 6.1.

yeah, every time I see anyone bring up "sparing no expense" I laugh a little at the fact that four years in and we still cannot wear hats without third party assistance.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see ears added to the Patch 6.1 hairstyles in Patch 6.2; I honestly thought that the ear additions would either be added later on or only start appearing for rarer hairstyles released after the newest ones. Here’s hoping for more hat support next!
