New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

Made an account in the forums to express my dissapointment with the "new" hairstyles hrothgar got. Never expected we'd get even half as many as the other races got, but I did expect we'd get something worthwhile for the wait. But even just shared hairstyles across all faces was apparently too high of a bar. Not even the decency to keep our ears with the terrible hairstyles that were picked to add.

I really am curious why those hairstyles in particular. The Nier one makes sense (although wtf quality control why is his head a bean) because it's an advertisement for their other IPs and the Lightning Returns one is just an advertisement for their cash shop, but... Why those hairstyles? Why the Karen hair and not just that -- why only the Karen hair? The fact that there were no more... traditionally masculine hairstyles done for them is almost bizarre.

they were largely the hairstyles given to Viera at the start of the expansion, meaning they were most likely already on the editing floor. In my eyes it just seems like they didn't give any thought or care as to which hairstyles would actually look good with Hrothgar ears and heads, they just chose the ones that they had just given Viera (which were chosen with care as to which hairstyles would actually look good with Viera ears and heads)

because they pushed off working on it until the last possible minute and instead of looking to see what hairstyles would look good on hrothgar, they just said "screw it" and gave them the same exact set of hairstyles that they gave to viera.

Besides the issue with the missing ears and the fact that the selected styles don't seem like the best fit aesthetically for Hrothgar (except for perhaps the Pulse hairstyle), something that truly bothers me about the hairstyles they chose is how hard they are for players to use. People have been asking for more hair options for Hrothgar for years, yet all but one of them (The Emmanellain hairdo) is locked when you first create your character. This restricted selection seems like a very non-player-friendly thing to implement, and more care should have gone into selecting styles that are more accessible. New players, in particular, will need to spend quite some time in the game before they can even unlock the new hairstyles, which is unfortunate as it causes unnecessary frustration for players who simply want more customization options.

Races which the community itself constantly reminds them that are unfinished and have been begging for the good part of THREE YEARS now to please, kindly, finish.

How is this not a priority but Character Portraits are?
How is this not a priority when they look at other races and think "yeah, they need a glow-up"?
How is this not a priority but Mahjong and Umbrellas were?
How can this not be considered a priority when this thread is among the fastest-growing topics, Hrothgar and Viera are the most spoken-of topic the past 3 years?

mahjong is absurdly popular in japan amongst their equivalent of boomers with bosses often forcing their male employees to play it with them after work.

and yeah, they put so much out that seemed relatively meaningless but then once again neglected the part of the game players pay attention to most -- their own bloody characters.

Well, I remember saying something similar about the Mahjong thing when someone else said that the people who deal with that *may* not be the same people dealing with characters and the like. But, I definitely agree. It does seem like resources are constantly allocated to....less important things like the umbrella poses because I can't actually find anywhere that people have even asked for that OR character portraits.....But, Im only looking at largely English speaking communities since my second language is German. No Japanese. The character glow ups, thats pretty important tho. The game looks pretty old especially as new GPUs come out and people are probably playing on bigger monitors (I play on 2K and the textures look god awful)

It is odd. Even for viera, only a couple desirable hairstyles were made available. It's almost as if they just pull them at random. Speaking of that, for hrothgar, they could be trying to make the same ones available that viera has available, but I don't know what all was added to compare on hand.

It is rumored that they‘re adding them in a specific order. Time will tell I guess.
