New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

But the devs have made one big mistake: they took unexpectedly something away from the players. In this case: the ears. I do not know one game, where the feedback was very positive when the devs did something like that. But i can remember games, where the feedback was negative. So please do not do it.

Spicy take here: I’m grateful for the missing ears. I despise the haircuts as they are. There’s nothing bestial or in-line with being Hrothgar there in the first place, and the additional shape of the skull alone is terrifying. When you couple that with the explanation “you have to imagine the ears under the hair” it undermines the excuses we’ve been given for no headgear support.

So the lack of ears has helped the community to rally around the fact that the devs have left Hrothgar essentially unfinished since ShB launch.

And as a Hrothgar, folks saying “You know, I don’t play Hrothgar, but y’all got done dirty,” that support means the world to me.

And if all we get out of this is the same crappy, out-of-touch hairstyles, just with ears instead of:

- Hairstyles in line with Hrothgar lore and design
- Hairstyles that make an attempt to conform to our skulls
- Frank talk from the dev team and transparency as to what they’re going to do about it
- The ability to use ALL the legacy hairstyles across all our faces, which is something every other race has
- The devs understanding that while face/ hair combinations for other races can be in the hundreds, Hrothgar have had 8, 2 per “skull” and even then swapping between the two cost $10
- That even when Viera hair was upgraded even then there was months of time to weigh in before implementation and there’s more work planned

Then.. …all we’ve really learned is that people should have ears. And, frankly, that kind of terrible dev response is something I expect from Blizzard. Not Square.

I *expect* from a game that values individual expression and design that races continue to evolve and mature and have the designs get more robust. And it means a ton to me that the community aren’t saying “this is what you deserve,” but rather “let’s make sure no one gets left behind.”

So, I’m grateful for my missing ears, and for anyone reading this.

I guess, you are the exception here.

The point is, it is a psychological thing. It is almost always bad to take away something from the players, they already had. It is like class/job nerfs. If you nerf something then it makes the players upset. It is better to make a class too weak and then buff it peu a peu than the opposite: make the class overpowered and then nerf it. The last approach will always produce complaints from the players, because they are already invested in the class and you make their investment obsolete.

It would be better to have a toggle, which allows to switch the ears on and off.

But if this moderator doesn't get the feedback they're asking for, who's to say Yoshi will just accept the other feedbacks and take theirs into account, while we're ignored and wasted our opportunity? As far as I can see on the other forums they're not disappointed anymore. This might be our only chance for a really long time.

Voicing the disappointment, the slow production, bringing up how moderators do it better is perfectly valid, I'm not disregarding how you feel - but I really am worried we won't get this chance again.

I think a fair compromise would be to ask them to hire a 3rd party group dedicated just to creating hairstyles, we should make it clear that we don't want to wait for a long time again. Can we agree on that?

I'm talking about the JPN forums etc. We're not the only ones they're gathering feedback from. They're not asking for 110 pages on how terrible the hairstyles Hrothgar received in 6.1 were, they're asking what YOU want to happen. Do you want race-exclusive hair which would take more time, or do you want them to continue giving you earless hairstyles? That's the feedback they're asking for.

Even though I don't play Hrothgar, what I would want is:

Implement all the unlockable hairstyles (the modern aesthetics ones) for Hrothgar with ears. There is no reason to not have the ears. Modders have already implemented tons of adjusted vanilla hairstyles with ears clipping through and it's okay like that. It's not like the hair Square Enix implemented don't clip neither. Once these hairstyles are implemented, maybe add a couple race-exclusive hairstyles, and whenever a new modern aesthetics hairstyle is released, implement that one for Hrothgar as well.

It is absolutely, 100% definitely possible, and not that hard, because modders already prove that it is possible with no issues whatsoever. Here you have a few examples that it's definitely possible, including the snow hairstyle where SE removed the ears for no reason:

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that the dev team is so dense that they don't realize what the players want by now and have wanted for 3 years. It was even stated that Hrothgar and Viera would get their own unique hairstyles for their race to compensate for their lack of options from the start. And it was, for the most part, accepted. So we waited. And waited. ANNNND waited. What did we get? Something no one wanted or asked for. Yoshi P can feign ignorance all he wants, but it's a futile effort now.
