Its still FOMO for all of those new players that will get the game later. For these, the items may be gone forever.

IMO it would have been much better to simply keep the rewards, so that anyone can work for them, even two years down the line. Everyone could then grind for the things they want, without the fear of being too late.

I understand the stance being taken here. But, tell me this: Is Future-proofing PvP content worth it in a competitive environment? I disagree. In a competitive environment there's always going to be winners and losers - and I believe they are wanting to push in a different direction away from Top 100(hope to god they don't surprise us with another "Top 100 Ranking" reward...that would absolutely turn people off). What they are trying to do is increase PvP engagement since their numbers have always been low outside of PvP community practice and events. GARO is going to push that incentive, same time as the Battle Pass. Two birds, one stone. It's easier for them to market it this way, but as I said: We need to analyze the progression system by itself first and make a determination on how fast progress is - because if it's really, really slow then obviously casual people like me when it comes to PvP are not going to have a good time with the system despite the rewards being the carrot(that Tank set especially).

One of the reasons why I think they won't keep the rewards indefinitely is partially caused by the development team - how much resources they are willing to pour into keeping this available without overwriting other resources, as well as keeping equipment relevant? They already have a ton of vendors for Wolf Marks, though they have a far different vendor entirely for Wolf Collars exclusively tied to Ranked.

If the pass turns out to be super slow, then yes: We can say it's not an effective way except putting a giant carrot on a long stick. But, people in XIV have been known to grind for glamour they want in all instances. Besides, Glamour is the "True Endgame" everyone says. Til' then, we shouldn't make any harsh arguments without backing them first.
You might find that I am being overly critical of something that hasn't happened yet, but you will have to forgive me that it is quite literally the anxiety of FOMO that has brought me to the forums to express the poor idea of it in the first place. This isn't me saying Square is bad, PvP is bad, etc. This is simply me advocating that there is a better way to design an incentive/reward and I want to encourage them to take a leaf out of their own book when it comes to much of the other things in this game.

My post also has much to do with the design philosophy of longevity from Square not jiving well with FOMO when it comes to limited things. You're correct that eight months is a long time to accomplish a task, but it is a drop in the bucket to how long an MMO will carry on for. I believe it is fair to pass judgement on this type of content loss at every step, at any sign that new players or returning players are not being thought of.

I'd also like to touch on the idea of feeling forced to participate in content rather than wanting to do it. Even if it's eight months and that is plenty of time, you are still required to do it within that time period. Not only is it poor design, players won't be doing it because they want to. Part of the reason this community vibes so well is because there is no urgency to compete for fear of something like FOMO.

I hope you don't find me combative but rather passionate about the topic. The only reason I picked up this game eight years into its life is because of the notable lack of these practices. For players like me this is a big selling point.

Personally I loathe fomo. It wastes space on people's devices when they don't have access to items and are simply storing them to occasionally (in the case of ranked pvp items, rarely if ever) see them on others. Instead I would propose a time limitation to the inability to obtain the item. Say two ranked seasons to obtain the items via ranked, two ranked seasons being completely unavailable and then available for a large chunk of one of the pvp currencies on a forever vendor.

There is no official FFXIV discord.

That being said I was originally excited about the new PVP when they announced (last year) that we'd be able to get rewards at our own pace. With the new limitiation again, makes it quite uninteresting.

I am fully against *any* limited time rewards that do not have another way to obtain them. There should be *nothing* in this game that goes away forever. Garo gear and mounts included.

You would never get promotions that involve other companies then.

They have their place. They just shouldn't be used excessively. Everything I've seen regarding the new PvP system and its rewards tells me it is VERY, VERY forgiving in this regard. And that is great.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

Yeah I never understood why people don't like them, other than the fact that they personally may not get them.
