Us old WoW players are getting PTSD flashbacks. The devs really need to change their stance on how they address job changes going forward

The main issue with the job has been and continues to be button bloat. Removing Hissatsu: Kaiten does in fact, remove 1 button, but that button was part of the core rotation and is part of the kenki management cycle of SAM, which contributes to its skill level. proper kenki management is at the heart of skillful SAM play and learning it makes the job enjoyable.
Having 3 long cool down( or resource-gated) skills does NOT contribute IMO and is a pain to keep on the hotbar. The easiest fixes in the world would have been: Combining Shoha and Shoha II into 1 ability, with a damage falloff. Combining Hissatsu: Senai and Hissatsu: Gurren in the same way. Even REMOVING Hissatsu: Gurren and divvying up its allotted dps into Shoha II would have been better. Lastly, tucking Ogi Namakiri underneath Ikishoten, both of which are abilities used once every 2 minutes and one gates the other. There, 3 buttons removed, and I bet not one person in the entire community would mourn them AND the core rotation remains untouched.
"After reviewing concerns regarding the Samurai changes made in 6.1 to address action bloat, we have decided to increase Hissatsu: Shinten's kenki cost from 25 to 30. Please look forward to it."

The salty tears continue to drain.
I think the autocrit issue is obvious and reveals a much deeper flaw with game systems that extends far beyond samurai specifically. I don't envy the development team tangling with it.
I dislike removing kaiten immensely. I'm not going to say much about my pedigree with the game or with the job beyond acknowledging that it exists and is deeper than leveling the job once and dropping it. So I'll just reiterate that I really, really do not like the removal of kaiten. I do not buy the reasoning that kaiten is comparable to shinten or to dark arts and I think the loss incurred by lower skilled players for screwing up kaiten was acceptable and within bounds. Players did not get their output dumpstered by screwing up one kaiten.
While I hate the removal, I am not a developer and not privy to their conversations; perhaps it has to happen. I will still forever rip them on the timing of this change. Pushing a major fundamental change to the job like this in a x.1 patch before an ultimate is extremely frustrating. It changes what I would like to play in the ultimate fight itself which necessitates gearing another job on short notice which is stressful and feels immensely disrespectful. I want to be clear; the changes, if they must happen, could be "fine" even if I dislike them. However, putting the changes so close to some of the most exciting content the game has to offer, content that requires a large amount of preparation, is legitimately shocking.

all these sam changes are tone-deaf (except the third eye duration buff), and i would rather they just not touch the job.
the tenka change is so unwarranted and strange. it's like they don't want cone aoes to exist anymore. this homogenization route has made job design worse all around.
in my mind the damage variance isn't an issue at all; it's just the nature of a job w/ few high damaging abilities. i don't think it needs to be addressed, especially considering other jobs, such as dnc and gnb, have very high potency skills that dramatically increase their dps if they crit (standard/technical step, double down). really if they wanted to reduce variance of damage due to crits on sam, then reduce setsugekka and namikiri potency a bit and raise combo gcd/shinten potency. it's not perfect, but it'd be a little better than it is now.
everyone had said all the other better solutions to sam button bloat so i'm not gonna go over that. kaiten has been core to the design of samurai since its inception. the decisions the design team make sometimes just boggle my mind.

After seeing that Fuga and Tenka Goken got converted into circular AOEs, I'm dreading that Hissatsu: Gurren will eventually be getting the same treatment, or Enlightenment on Monk for that matter. God forbid there be any thought given to positioning involved during AOE.
removes kaiten for action bloat
also buffs third eye to encourage more usage of actions
???????
I was actually sad when they removed the attack you could do after Third Eye in EW... It felt nice to use even if it wasn't a big gain and had a cool animation.
It just added flavor and made it feel like you were rewarded for using it properly.
