    SWTOR Refugee here....

Trying to find a new "Home" after SWTOR 7.0 junk dropped.
I have been playing for almost 2 months now, and I have subscribed. So far the game is good, still on the fence about becoming a permanent sub.
One thing that I do not like about this game that would probably really make it very appealing, would be a shared bank for our characters.

I really like to explore games by playing all the different races and I don't really like to play just one character. I like alts.

For me, it just opens the game up more to play all the races and to be able to play different classes with those races.
Right now, it is a pain not being able to send manufactured or gathered items to our alts. Even if we could mail the stuff, that would be a huge plus!
But, a shared bank would be awesome!!
A shared bank would keep me in this game for sure!
    Just food for thought.....

The game isn't really made for alts. It's heavily designed so you have one character, and you play many (or even all 31) jobs on that single character.

You can sort of get what you want if all your alts join a Free Company; they'll all have access to a Free Company chest.
... but that requires that you either have an understanding with the FC leader; or that you and your alts are the only members of the FC.

i also like having alts, playing the same character all the time is boring, trying to send items to your alts by using the marketboard is too risky so i created a guild just for myself and my alts, i use the guild chest to trade items and gil with them

Yeah, I'm a long time player but I do agree that it would be nice if the game were more alt friendly. I don't really even seriously play any of my alts, and I do of course realize that you don't really NEED alts in FF14 at all, but the game doesn't need to be as almost hostile as it is against the idea. A shared bank, shared glamour dresser/wardrobe, the ability to share housing ownership, maybe sharing acquired crafting recipes and (some) achievements, more account wide store items, etc. would all be very nice.

As Jennah said, this is not a game really made like it is in SWTOR (I've been involved with SWTOR since first beta, and founder). I get that 7.0 is a major disaster for SWTOR - and we all saw that coming. They have absolutely no interest in listening to player feedback on PTS, and they never will listen. They never will listen.

While the race differences are nice to have here, the game itself just really isn't built like SWTOR is. I agree that the inventory system in this game could really, really, really use a change. But it's how the game started, and really you get used to it. You will find that leveling so many alts are going to be... non-productive unless you have to the time to treat this game as a career. There is so much to do, so many jobs (classes) to level, and crafting in itself is a career here. It isn't the same leveling either, and you have a LOT of gameplay to get through. So much in fact, you are probably going to get sick of it with the alts you have, and end up sticking to one character. You can do it all on one without hindering your progress, unlike alts.

But you can't compare this game to SWTOR. It's an entirely different beast with an entirely different mindset of playstyle.

The producer and director of XIV is on record saying that he doesn't understand alts and finds them pointless. I wouldn't hold my hopes up.

Alt-holic here. I know that playing alts can be a bit painful sometimes. I love this game to pieces and it feels like home to me, so I for one don't mind playing alts in the current state of things; it's fun and even relaxing for me. But I certainly wouldn't oppose to some alt-friendly features.

One thing alts give that you don't get from NG+ is character progression. There's something enjoyable about taking a character from weak "noob" to hardened veteran. I'm frequently creating new characters, running them through a substantial chunk of the MSQ then deleting them before starting over.

They also offer a marketboard advantage for those into the economic side of MMOs.

Otherwise, I'd agree. There's really no need for alts in this game.

I recently restarted a play through on an alt for a few reasons. I wanted a clean character without a ton of gear and glams. It made it easier to focus on a couple jobs I have yet to meaningfully level. The MSQ also provides a focus and goals so it keeps you grinding at the job. Also, I wanted to meme as a Lalafell for a while. The sprout comes back too and is great for jobs you aren’t super familiar with. I also noticed I missed a ton of stuff in the MSQ and in the blue plus quests. Things make more sense now.

I'm also a SWTOR 7.0 refugee who started in January. (I played on their PTR and didn't even bother installing that crap when it released. Who releases a UI after your players tell you it *hurts their eyes*? It's mind boggling.)

Anyway, it did take me awhile to get comfortable with the idea that you basically only play one character to do everything in the game with. How I got around it was playing with the character creator for many hours and saving many different looks. Also remember that you can change with Phantasia if you really want to down the line!

I still sometimes wish that I had a bank, but your retainers are basically your banks. Buying the companion app to get an extra retainer is a good deal, in my opinion.
