Garleans with the third eye are pure blooded, and pure-blooded garleans can't manipulate aether. One of the plot points in Garlemald was how magic was seen as so alien and terrifying to the garlean citizens because they could not do it, and it does not have a root in their culture as it does everywhere else.

The only ""magic"" they've been capable of producing came as the byproduct of horrific scientific experiments (zenos), and by making pacts with voidsent (reapers).

Also garleans largely just use the elezen model with rounded ears, not exactly an exciting new race. Would be better to just have it as a cosmetic item

Also to add to this, most of those Garleans you see casting spells are not really Garleans, you can consider them as conscripts that the Garleans took in to serve them.

This is incorrect. Per the Encyclopedia Eorzea: "Garleans have little inborn ability to manipulate their body's aether, however, and thus the arcane arts have ever eluded all but a few."

There are pure-blooded Garleans capable of using aether, it is rare but it is possible. And seeing how the player character is the special chosen one that defies all social norms of their race (again see Male Viera and Male Mi'qote), there is no reason for us to not have them as a race. Nor do pure blooded Garleans only use the elezen model. Cid uses the Highlander model, and several pure blooded Garleans in the Garlemald zone use the midlander model.

The problem with that quote from the EE is that we haven’t seen any evidence of that from the game itself and the game treats their inability to use magic as absolute.

The point that poster was trying to get across is that there’s no such thing as a “Garlean” race model. Garleans in the game just take a Midlander or Elezen body and change the ears and put an eye in their forehead. Some like Maxima are still a normal Elezen head that you can make right now. SE would need to create a whole race from scratch in order to make them playable.

Cid uses a unique appearance like the other leaders in the game, but it’s based on a Midlander skeleton. If you copy him in the Halloween event, he does Midlander emotes and he’s super short compared to the “Elezen” Garleans.

Now that we've gone all of these long years, with Garlean roleplayers wishing for Garlean armor (Not the eastern Imperial armor that we have in game, but the standard issue Garlean Imperial armor from Garlemald.)

Can we please put a set of Garlean Imperial armor on the mogstation that INCLUDES a helmet and THIRD EYE? Yes, that's right: I suggest putting the third eye up on the mogstation. Bonus: An Imperial gunblade.

I alone would be buying at least six of them because I roleplay a lot of Garleans. I know many, many others who would do the same. This is a great opportunity, especially in this expansion, to finally offer the Imperial garb + third eye.

You would make a TON of money off of these items, and we the players would absolutely LOVE to have them. Thank you for reading.

The "Garlean Legatus wannabe" in me highly approves of this idea-- plus, your Gunblade suggestion would finally complete one of my "Legate" glams I wear whenever I wander around Garlemald. I've long since ran out of suitable options to wear with my Law sets (see below)-- and an Imperial gunblade would be perfect.

In addition to the third eye, I'm still hoping that we get more of the Garlean officer's gear on the Mog Station or attainable in 6.X-- for instance, Menesius' armour and Uncle Emet's hairstyle (lovely artwork by Dodorimo

I believe one of the Encylopedia Eorzeas (I forget if it's the first or second) states directly that a very small percentage of Garleans are in fact capable of utilizing aether. We've also had two separate in-game examples of pure-blooded Garleans using actual magic, not counting Zenos' unique brand of strangeness and Lucia.

"Garleans have little inborn ability to manipulate their body's aether, however, and thus the arcane arts have ever eluded all but a few."

The Encyclopedia is written from an in-universe perspective, to me the entry comes across as much like hearsay as anything. The writer would likely have heard tales of Garleans using magic, some have been known to use it after all, Zenos and Reapers being obvious examples, but it's not really magic as Eorzeans know it.

Also, if I remember correctly from last time this debate came up, Lucia doesn't use magic anymore. Kind of a shame in my opinion, I liked the idea of a Garlean spy putting in ridiculous amounts of effort and training in order to use a novice level spell as part of their cover.

just add garleans as a subrace for hyur and elezen. just throw a line in somewhere that hydaelyn gave you the ability to use aether normally because of the whole paradox from elpis (we receive the blessing from hydaelyn -> we go to elpis and meet hydaelyn -> she gives you the blessing because you would have become tempered to ifrit and killed and therefore unable to have met hydaelyn in the first place)

have the blessing include that. or just have us be extra special and allow it due to us being a shard of azem

How on earth could a Garlean WoL even go two steps into the MSQ without getting run out of town, arrested, or murdered on the spot? This would be like a nazi in full SS garb just sauntering around America during WWII.

If your "third eye" is just perpetually covered by your hair and/or headwear so nobody knows you're Garlean, then I don't even know what it is you're asking for other than to just keep playing a hyur and privately RP as a "secret Garlean" like you're already doing.

Not all Garleans are imperials (though the vast majority are) we have a few notable in-game examples that contradict this entire line of thought. Yeah, some Garleans might want to hide their third eye to avoid racism, but it's no different than a Keeper wanting to be careful in Gridania or an Ala Mhigan being careful in Ul'dah.

Also, Garleans aren't as clan/subrace of Hyur. The game has always treated them as a distinctly different race. Garleans are as different from Hyur as Elezen are.
